This is the saddest story I've ever heard. But I wonder if you could go to the pawn shop and still buy them at a good price. I once heard of a guy who got a very nice M1 Carbine for under $200.

Oh and tell your friend that his wife is a putz.

What kills me is what they were. A Colt Python, a Colt 25 Automatic, and a Smith and Wesson 5906. Boy, the pawn shop owner found a real sucker that day.

The pawn shop can't sell them for 30 days, and most pawn shops don't even put them out until that 30 days is up. If they've been pawned, then she should go back and pay the money to get them back. I am not sure exactly how it works - I've never taken anything to a pawn shop in my life, never got a loan from a pawn shop, never did consignment through one, and all I've ever done at pawn shops is buy guns on display or PPTs (most recently, Bright Spot Pawn!!).

I have to agree, this is a case of let the buyer, or in this instance the seller, beware. You are in a pawn shop for cryin' out loud! That guy is there to turn a profit, buy low and sell high. If the owner stepped out to lunch and one of the numb nut employees paid her way too much for those guns I doubt anybody would cry about that. No, she is a grown woman, sounds like she had her opportunity to dicker on the price and had no interest in it. The pawn shop owner did nothing wrong here.

Don't laugh. The high/low gun price rule book is like the Bible among pawn brokers. They are forbidden by the "pawn broker's code" to offer less than the "low" price for any purchases. Check out page 47 for the set rules on selling Australian surplus 7.62x51 ammo.

Break a deal, spin the wheel. That's the pawn broker's code.

I don't know if I would. On the one hand, yes, that is WAY less than it is worth, on the other hand, especially if they are anti-gun, I figure that if it a choice b/w 200 bucks or having them just toss it or something, I'll part with 200 and atleast give the firearm a nice home.

Personally, I just find it sad that people think that a fair price can be got from a pawn broker, and fail to do even basic research into the value of the items that they have.

God... just reading this post pisses me off so much. If I were him, I'd pawn the **** out of my wife's jewelry and other possessions until I get the money I lost.

that's why in prenuptial agreement, my guns, dead or alive, and in will, she don't get them. the NRA gets them besides they are locked up in a browning safe and she don't have the combinations, i change it regularly too, just in case and none of her stuff is store there either, so she can see what's hiding, ask for something to be sold for a nicer diamond ring

                          Wow, that is really tragic.

The pawn shop did nothing wrong though, they have bills to pay, employees to pay, and are there to make money, not give it away. You people need to stop talking about looking up ethical in the dictionary, and go look up capitalism instead.

She made a very stupid mistake, and should have researched their value and been more adamant on her selling price and/or found a private party to sell them to. (Even better, she should have minded her business and let her husband handle the sale of HIS firearms that HE inherited). She did not, so the pawn shop made off well, her husband lost out on $$$, our OP lost out on some nice pieces, and the wife should be flogged.

Keep in mind also that the guns belonged to his buddy's father in-law. I'm assuming that means they belonged to his wife's father, so she is the one that inherited the guns.

The pawnbroker didn't force her. Hold a gun to her head.

If I walk into a Circuit City and see a return/trade in on a McIntosh amp, and the store is asking $100, I take it. I don't try to educate the seller on what he should be pricing the item. Some days you get good deals.

The pawnbroker has no obligation to educate the customer.
So your wife/girlfriend goes to get an oil change in her shiny new whatever, she has no idea it should only be $30. The charges her $150. Capitalism or ripoff? Hint: If you don't answer ripoff, I have some beachfront property for sale in the Mojave Desert.
