    Kayaking with a gun

Without getting into a debate as to the why, let's just skip ahead to the how and the repercussions of possibly getting my gun wet. I'm planning a short 4 day kayaking camping trip down some very remote rivers/creeks . I'd like to take a pistol with me for a variety of reasons. Storage options are either holstered, or in a Pelican style drybox. While the drybox will certainly keep the gun dry, it will also mean it is more or less completely worthless until I'm unpacked at camp.

How does the law view waterways with regards to open carry? I mean, I would be going into and out of BLM land, but outside of BLM would the waterways count as unincorporated?

As far as getting wet. I'm assuming if I for some reason dunked the gun, a stainless 1911, more or less I'd be ok until I got to camp for a basic strip down and home for a full open up her up cleaning, no?

I believe the only way to kayak with a gun short of locking it is to have a ccw permit. What are you going to do? Shoot a shark?

Shark? On a river? More like PIRATES !

Screw carrying a pistol or a long gun, mount a 1919A4 on the front of your kayak.

I dunno about 1911.... a glock is fully functional even when it is wet....

Now.... if where you go is OK for hunting, a hunting lic may allow u to carry loaded.

If you bring a fishing pole, you can legally carry concealed while fishing, as long as you don't shoot fish

When I use to jet ski years ago, Sheriff patrolling the lake on waverunners would put their gun in a ziplock and holster it

+1, and even if you're not fishing you're "on your way to or from fishing" right?

kayaking works better with an oar.

I find a paddle far superior.

I wouldn't be concerned about kayaking and getting the gun wet. Keep it lubed well before you go. If it's saltwater I would definitely rinse with fresh then clean/lube after. Rust requires time. If you really want to keep it covered a zip-loc would do just as well, and you could tear into it.

I'd go with a pelican case. I've been canoeing, camping, and hiking in America for more than 35 years and just about three times I needed to be armed and a couple more where I happy to be armed even though I didn't "need" to be. All of those times I was camped - where carry is completely legal as long as possession is legal.

Moving down the river as long as you don't stray out of Californian (Dlivereance) you'll be right. Those camping, hiking, or canoeing have never been a problem - the idiots coming out to the country to drink and raise heck have been.

I say, just mount the guns on a ring on the kayak. Quad 50 configuration, make sure it's centerline, and you may want to outriggers to balance it out. 1) it's open carry, so everybody knows you are armed. Thus, CCW is not needed. 2) You are consider a marine vessel or some sort, 3) you have acessability, 4) and when sharks do attack, you can defend yourself. Don't belive me ask the guy who almost became a meal

                            Good luck and be safe.

Also make sure you test your rounds ahead of time to make sure the necks (and primers?) are sealed. If water seeps in to the powder, the rounds are worthless.
