Sure that would help! Thats not the law in CA right now though so it has no bearing on the discussion here.

You guys can try to paint this turd all you want. In the end it is still up to you to know if you are eligible prior to purchase. Remember, it is illegal for a prohibited person to try to buy a gun in this state. If you have had something in your life you think could be questionable you should pay the $20 and find out. It's you life and your problems.

As someone stated, what if you have no idea. Would you just blow $50 to do a check? Doubtful. My wife has got a RO against an ex. Kicked her condo door in. He doesn't know. PD was called, she got the RO. He was gone when they showed. Had no idea that PD was called nor he has a RO on him.
The restrained must be notified, If he doesn't check his mail at his prior or current residence thats his/hers problem. If he is dodging service, or can't be located because he is hiding, again thats his or hers problem. Bottom line: don't kick in an ex girlfriends door and act violent or you will be a prohibited person.

Your quoting spirit of the law not letter of the law, and your wrong. It's called an ex-parte. 4hr notice is only required "on phone" 4hrs prior to court (4am wake up call before work that you have court in 4hrs). Now, if you changed your number, didn't pay your cell bill, whatever, and your "ex" has enough evidence, she/he is getting it. I know from my previous job.

Now, regarding my wife and her ex, honestly till this day I have NO IDEA how she got it on him. I saw the papers when I moved her into my house. It was in a box. She called PD, not 911. PD showed up. She went to the local police station and she was given a RO. It wasn't a temp RO it was perm. She never went to court. This was in CA. No joke. Due to my training, I know how to read a RO. My only thought was the PD was connected to the court house and a judge was on hand to sign it.

Sorry, but, your wrong. Google is your friend. Look it up.

RO can't become permanent until after a judge decides on the matter. Otherwise its a TRO until the matter is resolved in court.

Sure it does. It's the very essence of the situation regarding the dealer doing all the work on the background check; all the data entry, holding up inventory for ten days, storing the firearm, the costs of gun safes, insurance, alarm systems, canceling the DROS, staff time, rent, payroll, etc., etc.

Respectfully disagree. All my schooling and knowledge would agree with you in the past. But, after I saw wife's papers. I am speechless.

Now, back to the TRO becoming a perm RO. You are aware, that if there is enough evidence, she/he is getting the RO if they can't find you right? Just because you dodge it, or just moved out of the area and are not aware. Doesn't stop a perm order. So, it can be done and you might not be aware.

Well agree to disagree to avoid the thread from getting off track.

Why not say something like, We wouldn't need sobriety check points if drinking and driving was legal.

No i agree but i am trying to stay on track with the loss of dros and restocking money.

Take personal responsibility for your self and if you have any possible doubts send in the form and $20 to see if you can still purchase. Everyone has skeletons in their closets and it is incumbent on them to make sure what the status of those skeletons are. Is there someone else we should be blaming for those skeletons??

That kid needs to learn how to read or not lie on the 4473 where it asks, "Have you ever been dishonorably discharged from the armed services?" If he answers yes, then I wouldn't take his money and start his DROS.

That is the thing that cracks me up about this thread. You guys pretend like people just walk into gun stores on a regular basis with no clue they are going to get denied and that poor them they found out the hard way. I have had maybe a fraction of my denials be a situation like this.

That's a whole different topic. It's like if you get pulled over for suspended license. Should the city be able to take your car/truck and own it? Sure, they only take it for 30 days. 99% of the people can't afford impound fees after 30 days. Then add, if your registration is expired, you need that up to date. Need a smog for that year? Add that. Before you know it, your fees could be $1000-$1500! on a car worth $1500 with bad brakes, bold tires, etc. lol.

So, to take your property for driving w/out a license? I say no to that too. Most of the time, PD sends you walking home. I would rather see heavy fines, person taken into custody, etc. Rather than allow government to be able to take the property.

That's all I have to say about that..Again, before we get off track.

Just because I do 75mph on the way home tonight doesn't mean I am going to pull a DMV report every Fri night or check online to see if I have a speeding ticket coming in the mail neither.

Great debate, but well have to agree to disagree.

Don't do something to get your license suspended.

How come everything you bring up involves breaking the law first and then crying about what they do to you after?

What I am saying is that there are people in your CA government that decided you need a 10 day cooling off period on every firearm purchase. Those are the people you should be writing to if you want to reduce fees at your local gun shop.

Or, you can get your 01FFL and be the only one that works for free.

As the saying goes: "If you want to make a small fortune in the firearms business, you have to start with a large fortune."

Does anyone honestly believe that gun dealers are making a fortune selling ammo, CLP, gun cleaning supplies, etc?

Oh, I agree. I wasn't using that as an example. Agree 100%. Let me clarify, he would find out once he was handed the form. But, for the last 10 yrs he might not have known as the other poster stated we all know we can or can't have a firearm. I disagree with that part is all.

That fraction is all I was getting at. It does actual happen. Thank you. .

We are not talking about a fee reduction!! We are talking about a gunstore owner recouping a loss from having to restock an item because someone who is prohibited tried to purchase a firearm which is illegal to do.
