I've seen crimes happen in the best AND worst areas of places. A statistically 'safer' neighborhood is still only as safe as a place with less crime (not zero crime). I carry for that 1/10000000000000 chance I'll need to use it.Comment

Not to preserve my rights, but to preserve my LIFE. In some areas of CA and many other states a CCW is essential for self preservation. Regardless of what politicians or the pillars of society tells us, the world in NOT a safer place in 2011. Clean it, lubricate it properly, buy the very best ammunition, train often and HAVE A NICE DAY out there.Comment

Not exactly a CCW issue but close enough.
Years ago I was giving roll call training (medium size Police Department) and I asked how many of the officers carried off duty. All did but one. His reasoning was that he lived in what was then statistically the safest city in the US. And that he "felt safe." We talked about how statistics don't work for the individual and that his "feelings" were interesting but that crooks really didn't care. He didn't change his mind.
About two weeks later he was standing in line at the 7-11 when the guy, two customers in front of him, pulled out a gun and robbed the place. Fortunately the crook was satisfied with what was in the till and didn't take down the customers.
He described the helpless feeling he experienced as "like being naked in public." While he probably was wise not to take action, even if he'd have been armed, it's only money and it wasn't even his money. There are a small number of incidents where crooks have herded customers into back rooms, robbed them and executed them. Carrying a gun would have given him an option and a choice. As it was, he had none.
He started carrying after that. And who comes to our aid in times of peril? Sometimes, it is the police or first responders; other times it is healthcare professionals; and sometimes it is family, friends, or neighbors. Sometimes, it is no one."... - U.S. District Judge Stephen McGlynn.Comment

Correcto...........crime can happen ANYWHERE but some areas are a vortex for it. 'Safe' is a state of mind that my CCW allows me to enjoy. I suggest everyone who qualifies give it a try.Comment

Well I guess I am an idiot then.
It would seem some people think you need a reason to be armed. I just like to be armed. It is like carrying a knife, a flashlight, my wallet, a can opener, my car keys, or a cell phone. It is a simple tool that I might use for a job I might have.
My gun doesn't harm anyone, go off on its own, or really do anything. It just sits there in my waistband doing nothing.
I have a Diamondback DB380 that I can carry in my front pocket of a nice outfit too just so I can continue to be armed just about anywhere.
What is my job you ask? I am a teacher! Well by day and a gun dealer at night. I am not sure why I keep picking primary jobs were I can't be armed.www.tenpercentfirearms.com was open from 2005 until 2018. I now own Westside Arms.Comment

Wasn't there some nut shooting people at a mall a few years ago? I know the was some hostage gang shooting at a Circuit City type store years ago also.
A few years back at a local mall some lady was killed for her Lexus in the parking lot.
At a Riverbank Ca. AM/PM mini market last year some 18 year old was killed in an attempted carjacking by two minors.
If I found myself in one of those situations,I'd like to have the choice or option to protected myself with a CCW.Comment

Bad things can happen anywhere.
My neighbor is retired L.A. Sheriff Deputy, he informed me that most rapes happen in parking lots in the middle of the DAY, between cars. (little food for thought) If you were going to rob someone, would you go to the ghetto or to Beverly Hills?R.I.P. Chris Kyle. 2/2/13Comment

In Virginia, having a Concealed Handgun Permit exempts one from the 1 in 30 day handgun sale restriction.
I live in a nice area. In fact, it's a National Park. Speeding is probably the number 1 crime. Richmond, Virginia is NOT so nice. As a wise man once said, "you never need a gun until you REALLY need a gun."Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

I feel this quote explains it best:
As qouted from the movie Contact (1997), "There are a thousand reasons we can think of for you to have this with you, but mostly it's for the reasons we can't think of."If you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of payments.
