I call it my "Gack", my "Piece", my "Heat", my "Quetta" (SP), my "Fotay", etc.

Actually I just call it a gun.

    Pistol sounds tame though...

When I'm casually talking about firearms I just call it handgun, rifle etc. If its duty related I refer to it as weapon.

]When I hammer nails with my pistol I call it a tool. When I stir gravy with it I call it a utensil.

Firearms are weapons. It is their primary function.

Just because that was the purpose behind their creation doesn't mean it applies 100% across the board. That's a premise we fight anti's on, "Purpose is irrelevant, it's how it's used."

Would you use this for home defense? Or would you use it primarily for competition and keep another one as a weapon?

It was drilled into me to call it a firearm or defensive tool, just because it sounds less hostile if you're in court.

When you start talking like that, you're playing by the antis' rules. The premise we fight the antis on is the fact that civilian ownership of WEAPONS is protected by the Second Amendment. I don't need to justify my gun ownership by providing "sporting purposes" for my guns.

The use of the word made me back away from a sale once. The potential buyer repeatedly PMed me asking about my "weapon" and he was very interested in buying this "weapon." He never mentioned the model name or anything else, so it gave me a bad vibe.

Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

I say weapon all of the time. I don't use the term gun or I don't use it very often. I refer to a pistol as a pistol & rifles as rifles. When I reference any of them in general I use weapon. Same goes for magazines, I use the term magazine & not clip.

It depends on the context, but yes most of the time I refer to them as weapons. Some Army training dies hard, just take a look at my closet and sock drawer.

Calling it a weapon, which it is, help instill the propper respect for it. After all, it hard to accidentally kill someone through a small error with a tool like a pair of pliars or a wrench.

Calling it a tool is that happy fell good crap that goes on all the time with lables. "visually impared" instead of blind.. falls under Will's statement of "a rose by any other name..." deal

I call it a firearm, rifle, pistol, etc. Not because of any PC carp but because that is what it is. To me they are items I use for my firearms recreation. However, I also realize that they can be used as a weapon.

Similarly, I call a pencil a pencil, a knife a knife but also realize that both can be used as a weapon when the need arises.

That kind of thinking I can understand and use without thinking about it myself.
I just don't like when people purposely avoid calling it a weapon to avoid upsetting some bleeding heart that might be listening.
