That is true, that is true....of course a S12 done up all AK style with slugs will also have em goin

Skydiver-nothing wrong at all.....it all comes down to personal choice, budget and what YOU want the truck gun FOR and where you may be if 'it' happens......me ,probably in a urban, suburban area or if 'lucky' in a rural area.....either way I feel pretty good in terms of close up and distance needs. of course I wont be rushing into or clearing buildings unless really needed......and let's be honest...if it is that bad I do not think I am going to worry about terms like 'fixed' 10rd, etc......but until /if that happens I keep the 10rds .... besides I do have a gripwrap if needed but I would probably be more concerned getting to family and dodging the cops....

And I really dont care if it gets scratched, hell parts of mine have seen 1-2 mideast wars, afro bush wars, etc.... besides it can always be refinished. You notice I dont have a red dot...just another thing to worry about -batteries. IF I can get a mount and afford one- I will go for an Aimpoint sight because they have a mUCH longer battery life-up to 50,000 hrs(?). If I could afford a canadian Elcan 1-4x that is about the best in my book. But Iron sights basically ALWAYS work....

      Go get your 'kit' on!

Kel Tec SU-16 CA folded up with a 20 round mag in the buttstock compartment. You could use two 10 round mags if you didn't have legal hi-caps.

Here is mine, it easily fits in the backpack you see pictured. I'd probably take the red dot off, but it isn't in the way either. You can see the sights through it too.

Chinese 870 clone. Solid enough to do the job, cheap enough that if it gets stolen it won't hurt too much. (other than some ****head having your gun)

Although if I lived in an area where a break in wasn't much concern, of course I would have my para or pgrip only S12

That's my exact setup too (different daypack though). I've looked at all the weapons options for a bug-out/trunk/truck gun and IMHO this is the best.

I used to use a Mosin-Nagant M44 as my trunk gun. Pretty good choice: powerful cartridge, loads quick enough with stripper clips, 4MOA accurate (good to hit a 20" target out to 500yds), short, relatively light. Plus if you had to hoof it in a SHTF situation, I don't think too many people would mess with you if you have the bayonet extended

Switched it up to an 18.5" barrel 870. Pros of that: ammo versatility, short, light, intimidating, side-saddle and butt-cuff allow you to carry ammo on the gun for quick loading.

Now I use a featureless AK variant. Pros: .30 cal punch, semi-auto, 30rds on tap, easy mag changes. Cons: none that I can think of really, just the un-PC of an AK I guess.

They sell long-gun locks on amazon that can be bolted down. I have a station wagon (haha I know ), so I bolted the lock under the rear cargo area where the spare tire goes, and the gun stays there until I use it. I'll find a link for the gun lock and post it here asap.

They don't have the same lock I use for my trunk gun, but I found a similar one. Here's the link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0000C...0262034&sr=8-6

I really like the Henry AR-7. Just wish it held more rounds.

Have you had much luck with yours? Many people have had horrible experiences with the Henry AR-7 jamming. If they could make them more reliable, I would love to have one. I have high hopes that the new re-design wasn't just cosmetics (gray/orange). I hope they addressed the fairly prevalent jamming problems. It surprises me the weapon isn't more reliable like Henry's other weapons. I have their H001 and love it.

Since the AR-7 hasn't proven to be that reliable and it needs a little more punch, I chose the Kel-Tec SU-16CA instead.

No, I don't have one! I just like them.

I think my Sears Mod3T is good for this "truck gun" job, though. My wife gave me the "money pit" speech last night

My Henry likes mini mags or any hi-velocity rounds. No jams with those.
If you goto RFC Henry pages you could find my extensive reveiw. It my be back a few pages now.

The problem I have with being ammo picky is it doesn't make a good survival/bug-out weapon. The weapon has to be reliable with any .22 ammo you come across during your survival existance. You may find .22 LR in any and all flavors as you rummage through supplies you come across while the world falls apart and your personal ammo stocks start to run low.

when i travel, i like the SU16 folded under my truck seat, i have two loaded pre ban mag's plus the two kel tec 10 round mag's with hollow point varmint bombs.

i like the sub 2000 but i dont like the bullet button on a truck gun.. i also like the 30 round capacity of my pre bans..

i actually asked my insurance guy to find out how much i would be reimbursed if they ever got stolen or lost at my house ina fire or accident or something since they are irreplaceable to me here in california.

he checked with his underwriters and they couldnt come up with an answer as its "intangible"
