Actually, I'm probably going to hit up my local shop for a trade + cash for a Mossberg 500. There are two there and would look very handsome in my ever growing collection

Only if it was under 26", at which point it would be an AOW and considered a handgun in CA as well.

If it's in a locked trunk of a car, it doesn't matter either way. It would be legal.

If you're really paranoid, get a lockable soft case. Now you're double-legal.

Being in an urban area...I just don't see a long gun for a truck gun. I can't think of any situation short of Armageddon that will allow you to walk anywhere with a long gun. And concealable? Hardly...unless you routinely wear an overcoat. I agree with stix....what you want is a truck BOB with a handgun inside.

i've been mulling over the idea of getting a Keltec SU16C for this purpose... lightweight, doesn't take up a lot of real estate (folds down), and i won't care if it gets banged around (though i'd keep it in a locked padded case).

Back when I lived in the Great State of Maine, a concealed weapons permit was good for any firearm you could legally own. With a trench coat and the right sling, I could conceal an H&K G3, no problem. And legally, too.

I have a truck gun for 'whatever' and still have to put final touches on the rest of the Emergency/shtf/gmh part of it but......... I also think a carbine or rifle is better than only a handgun...a shotgun is a mean machine and if you have some good slugs...well you could engage out to 100yds.........I tried some 3" slugs in my benelli...hit poi/poa at 100 and was got like 5 shot 2-3" for my first try at grouping once sights set.....3" is a STOUT load though-flame in the day!

Regarding if you have to hoof it- get a discrete carry case like a guitar case or other 'non firearm' looking case....hell if it is short enough(legally ) ,taken apart(AR) or folded it may fit in a tennis racket bag along with some essentials-food,ammo,mags,etc. If you only plan on a pistol--briefcase ,laptop case,etc...backpack... you get the idea...

Isn't part of the law for an un-locked longarm in the vehicle is that it has to be visible? Or am I mistaken? Could a shotgun with a full side-saddle be kept unlocked in open view or concealed? Or locked on either way?

My 1895 marlin guide gun 45-70 makes a great truck gun in my suzuki samurai. I'd only imagine a paratrooper FAL might be a little better.

Either open or concealed; openly, feds accept locked in a gun rack for school zone (CA doesn't care about long guns in Zones, but generally forbids guns on property).

In most rural areas, the gun rack ought to be unremarkable.

In Oakland, might get some attention.

Hey now- I have had a stainless 184 series Mini 14 'A team special' since I was 18---and yes it looks like the ones used...and it has never jammed on me..well aside from some crappy aftermarket mags-which I hammered flat...

Marlin guide gun in 45-70 is a cool rig,would like to get one sometime.

I just figure if I am stuck somewhere and have to get out of an area AND I have to potentially use my rifle...well....308.......i am not effin around.....

How 'bout a plain 'ole featureless AK build? Not too much worry if it gets scratched up. Loaded 10 rounds mags (hi-caps if you've had 'em before the ban). Speedy reload if necessary. Whats not to like?
