So, *NOT* LEO bashing at all, but I never got that. It's never compton or LASD I see with that much firepower on their bikes, it's always nice/safe places like La Habra/Brea. I mean, do motor cops in Brea *often* need rifles? 0_o
People who live in nice neighborhoods tend to have money... and tend to pay thier taxes... and tend to elect city council members who will increase police budgetary allocations.

Bank Robberies & Armored Car Robberies can happen anywhere.

Downey had the Pace Warehouse incident. They went up against AK's with shotguns and sidearms. I think that happened back in the 80's. Downey was not a bad city while I was growing up, so I bet it was a lot safer back in the 80's.

Huntington Beach had a shooting years and years ago at Springdale and Edinger. Where the tire shop is used to be a bank and it had been robbed by the suspect. If I remember correctly the motorcycle police officer ran out of bullets from his revolver. I think the suspect was shooting from behind his car. I could see an M4 being a good tool in that situation.

I agree you just never know where and when bad trouble will meet you.

There is no way if I was a cop that I wouldn't use a Glock 17 with +2 extensions, and then have some 33 round mags in my bag in the trunk.

Ontario cops carry short barreled M4's (10.8) on their bikes.

Personally I'd rather see police armed with the tools needed to deal with the ridiculous situations they encounter, than not have them just because they're on a bike(that said, civilians should be able to carry whatever the hell they want since cops aren't always around).

I have also seen some motor cops in La Verne and Arcadia with short barrel M4's.

Then today I saw some sort of MP on a motor bike on the 57 freeway around Diamond Bar. I couldn't get close enough to make out what it was, but it almost looked like a Uzi crossed with a Steyr TMP. So, anyone know what this was?
I have seen the same thing with bike cops in Thousand Oaks too.

This is very interesting. I've lived in northern CA all my life and have never seen any kind of long gun carried on a police motorcycle. I'm sure I'd have noticed if one went by.

I've seen shotgun, M4, and UMP. Pretty cool if you ask me. I'd think the UMP and shotgun would be more practical in urban areas than the M4.

                              Was it an MP7?

I've seen one CA SWAT team use them, there are probably more departments.
