    San Diego Gunshop

My brother-in-law is graduating from the Marines bootcamp at Camp Pendelton next week and the whole family is going down there. We're probably gonna have some free time while we're down there, so I was wondering if there is are any really good gun stores near Camp Pendelton that I can't miss while we're there?

There's no such thing as a really good gun shop in San Diego, but a lot of people talk about Iron Sights which is close to Pendleton. The rest of them are quite a bit further south... American Shooting Center is pretty okay, as is Project 2000 aka P2K. Discount Gun Mart can be a good experience or a terrible one, but they've got some fun stuff to look at regardless.

Just don't talk to anybody about gun laws unless you want a free comedy show.

We address his letters to San Diego, but I just looked at google maps and saw that Camp Pendelton is near Oceanside. No wonder letters take so long to get to him, they go to San Diego then back up to Oceanside. So I guess I'm asking if there are any really good gun stores near Oceanside besides Iron Sights?

I like Turners in Kearny Mesa ( when they have sales), Parallax Tactical and Direct Action Solutions.

I had a really bad experience with American Shooting Center and SoCal Gun. PM for details on those.

Marine corps bootcamp is at mcrd, in San Diego. If things haven't changed in the last few years, that is also where the graduations are. If you just want to see inventory, check out discount gun mart, socal gun and American shooting center.

Mcrd = marine corps recruit depot. It has been boot camp for everyone who has joined the marines from west of the Mississippi for the last 100 years.

Graduation from Marine Corps recruit training takes place at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego. Some of the training during boot camp does occur at Camp Pendleton, and perhaps this led to some confusion over where the graduation ceremony is being held. Some training courses which he might attend after boot camp are held at Camp Pendleton. If he is in fact graduating from a course at Camp Pendleton, I would check out the gun counter in the Marine Corps Exchange (base store), located at mainside in the All Seasons store. Ironsights in Oceanside is also a range and firearms can be rented. Discount Gun Mart is in the MCRD vicinity, they also have a few handgun rentals.

Duncan's Gunworks is in San Marcos, a few miles east of Carlsbad on Hwy 78. Maybe a 20-25 minute drive from Oceanside harbor. Not a huge inventory, but some interesting stuff to look at. http://www.duncansgunworks.com/

A little further down the 78 is Turners, San Marcos. Service there can be hit or miss and pretty much avoid the place.

The only place I dont like in San Diego is American shooting center. Everything else has been ok for me. Especially P2k!

Check out the gun section at the base store in Pendleton. My brother in law got his Mini-14 there.

Boot camp at MCRD, afterwards they go to the School of Infantry at Pendleton.

Drop by DAS in Solana Beach. Iron Sights Shooting range is in Oceanside. There's quite a few surplus shops downtown Oceanside as well that carry some interesting stuff.

There's a Turners in Escondido, which is a bit east of Oceanside up the 78.
                            It's a good store too.
