I have lived in California for 36 years, but grew up in Boston.

Every year in grammar school we took field trips and walked the Freedom Trail, visited Lexington Green, and Bunker Hill monument.

Faneuil Hall (the Cradle of Liberty), Old South Meeting House, Old North Church, Boston Common, Paul Revere's House, Concord......

I've returned countless times over the years to the places where Patriots risked everything to be free. Always with watery eyes.

Let Us Never Forget. ( a phrase often used for 9/11/01, but even more appropriate here, I submit)

Patriots Day (April 19), Evacuation Day (March 17, the day the British left Boston) and Bunker Hill Day (June 17) are holidays in Boston.

I know the message well, and how wonderful that Appleseed (which I am unfamiliar with) teaches Americans, why we are Americans.

And how easy it is for me to say to someone who may question, or debate about guns...

"Guns are as American as Mom and Apple Pie, a unique American right"

Is the history lessons mostly on Sat? I hear Sun is mostly shooting and fine tuning your skills. I keep trying to make it, but a full weekend is difficult. Can I get enough of our history/background just on Sat without attending Sun?

Appleseed and cal guns are lucky to have a man like you on their side.
Your analysis of the similarities between cg and Appleseed is spot on and I pray that the efforts of the cg community result in the same success as the efforts of Revere, Dawes, Prescott, Adams, Davis, and all the patriots who sacrificed for our freedom.

I'd love to do the Appleseed. I got distracted by my soon to be here first handgun, though. I need to take a class or two on that first. I might have to get shorter magazines for my AR .22 rifle if there's prone shooting as well.

Signed up for this coming weekend! Any ideas on how much ammo I should bring? I was just going to bring my EBR with irons, I dont have a 22lr, but I could borrow one if it'll reallybe that much of a savings. But I'd rather just get the trigger time on my EBR since I dont get to shoot nearly as much as I'd like.

Also kinda curious if anyone at appleseed realizes their pricing scale based on gender is a violation of CA law?

Maybe this needs to be advertised more openly. I do not know anything about the appleseed movement but having the historical portion available to the public might be a great advantage in turning this country back to self reliance when it comes to self defense. Could Appleseed work with VFW halls and granges to have weekend classes to educate those who would like to attend and if they chose to go further and train with guns then they could find out more. For those who chose not to get their "patch" maybe at least they would become supporters who would be an ally in the voting booth because they now understand the importance of what is being said. Many people will never have the ability to shoot another person under any circumstance but they could be a valuable ally for voting and in a support position. Maybe appleseed needs to have a division that can educate the public using the VFW and Grange halls across this state.

Amen, Jacob. My 1st Appleseed was Piru, a few weeks ago. I had a great time, met a bunch of good, solid down-to earth folks, and learned a few things as well. And ended up missing the patch by a rotten five points....
But I'm going to give another shot (or several; I went through WELL over a brick @ Piru) @ Angeles ranges in February.

We do history on both days. On Saturday we focus on the story of April 19th, 1775, whereas on Sunday we pay more attention to the individuals who took part in the event. It isn't really a "lesson," though -- it's more like sharing stories, ones that happen to be true. I think of it like telling stories around a campfire. There's a lot of detail that we leave out, hoping other do follow up research and learn more on their own. The story of our nation's founding is a darn good one.

I'd love to do the Appleseed. I got distracted by my soon to be here first handgun, though. I need to take a class or two on that first. I might have to get shorter magazines for my AR .22 rifle if there's prone shooting as well.

The majority (80%+) of our shooting is from prone, although if you have a physical difficulty that prevents this we'll be glad to work with you. Shorter magazines are a significant help for our course of fire. Also good to have a spare in case things jam up.

I'd recommend about 600 rounds to be safe. Typical round count over the weekend is 200 on Saturday and 250 on Sunday, but if we have a quick class and leftover daylight, we'll use it.

Also I can't speak to legal issues regarding pricing but if you're concerned, follow up with me offline and I'll put you in contact with the national leadership.

We find that the "low tech" method works the best, i.e. telling your friends and neighbors instead of billboards and such. But we'd be happy to work with VFW and other veterans organizations, have in the past. If you know of a good contact, I'll be happy to follow up. Thanks!

The history component is spread throughout the weekend with large parts occurring during the lunch breaks. Saturday's lunchtime history presentation focuses on the big picture story of April 19, 1775, the first day of the American Revolution told through something called the Three Strikes of the Match. Sunday's lunchtime history focuses on individuals and their sacrifices on that same day.

Both Saturday and Sunday have a lot of shooting. Saturday is much like drinking out of a fire hose as the fundamentals of shooting from prone, seated and standing, the six steps to firing a shot and "Inches, Minutes and Clicks", among others skills, are taught and each skill is practiced with live fire. On Sunday, each is reviewed, and practiced again. The second half of Sunday is almost entirely devoted to shooting scored AQTs in hopes of attaining the Rifleman's patch.

Though not ideal, if you can't do the weekend all in one stretch, come to a Saturday and then catch a Sunday at a future event. If you have any other questions PM me here (Freeman1775) or on the RWVA forums (Freeman) and I'll answer any questions I can.
