I too tend to go overboard whenever I get into something...Ask me about the Uranium phase .

But after I get saturated, I tend to stop the crazy buying and be satisfied with what I have.

Maybe he just has a higher break point (or bigger credit line) than most people. But do keep a close eye on him.

I believe that I had a similar problem some time ago. I was never pro- or anti-gun and then something happened in which I felt I needed a shotgun for home defense. I learned how to shoot it and couldn't get enough of it. I started buying a lot of guns, ammo and accessories. I was definitely spending too much money on these things (not to the point where I couldn't pay rent or anything that bad), but still bad enough. I had to learn to tone things down a bit and I did. Trust me, it's hard to control yourself when you see that one-of-a-kind C&R that you've been looking for for a long time at an incredibly low price and talk yourself out of buying it.

Addictions are addictions. The object might change, but the underlying psychological mechanisms are pretty much the same.

Seeing what recently happened with one of our Calgunners at SDSU, I would sit down with him and have a talk about it. Not that he's suicidal, but self-destruction is self-destruction either way. If it helps at all, what I've done personally is set limits for myself. I only buy one gun every 2-3 months max with no accessories and just enough ammo for testing/breaking-in, no bulk ammo purchases, etc. It sucked at first and now it's no big deal passing up a sale.

How can you take responsibility for another adult's actions? Be a good co-worker/friend to them but don't burden yourself when they make bad decisions on their own.
