No different than anyone who buys something as a investment. Personally I dont buy guns cars or entertainment type stuff with the investment in mind. I drive my cars, shoot my guns, and whatever I have i use. If it sits too long I get rid of it.
how much does he think he is really gonna get for those guns. Unless its some super rare actual AK 47 from russia that has full auto or some other crazy rare gun its not gonna be worth that much more. Personally i rather die knowing I enjoyed my things than to sit there and stare at them and wonder how would it be to ..........
I don't think your buddy is a poser. A poser would be a person who claims to have something but actually does not or its not as he states

About as bad as that Buick Grand National sitting on the dealer lot. Waste of a vehicle

To each his own, perhaps he just finds it more satisfying to have something that's NIB and never fired, I mean if you just score a 5" Colt python with perfect bluing you wouldn't toss it in the back of the trunk and take it out to the woods to work it out right? Same difference I suppose.

THIS is the most likely answer, he's stated he'd never sell them...and money is beyond not an issue with him. To me tho, it's like buying a 500hp car and never gassing it. But as someone else said...to each his own. I'll do my part as a best friend and keep trying to get him to shoot them. We'll see.

Wast of fine hardware! Do you know how many of the young guys wish they had RAW's, and his are wasting away. I can see him not wanting to put to much wear and tear on them, but never shot come on. Time to do some Jagermeister shots on top of a hotel roof with a few ruffie chasers. Opps John don't you remember shootinng the crap out of your guns last night?

I have several Raw's that I used to take out shooting all the time prior to the ban..then I started getting into off list stuff..now my Raw's usually just sit in the safe..I know they function 100% so if I really needed them I know they are ready to perform.

NIB means a lot more for resale than . . . ."well used". . . or. . ."only 6500 rounds thru this sweet gun". . .

I say he's a poser IMO. At a minimum he should have put 500 rounds through each one to make sure it functions properly. Once that is done then you can clean it and put it away knowing that it is fully functional.

I'd hate to wait until you really needed it to discover it has some sort of defect. I could not see myself buying something and not using it at least once to make sure it's functional. If they are RAWs then what good is it in California anyways? He can't sell them here and outside of this little bubble we call California that's just another overpriced rifle.

What a waste this is though. There's something about pulling out a RAW at the range and having people gawk while you shoot it that cannot be duplicated.

Embrace the RAW and shoot it diligently, for it may be the piece that pulls your fat out of the fire one day.

If you've ever watched the TLC show Pawn Stars there are usually people that come walking in with an antique firearm and almost every time the shop calls in an expert to evaluate the value of the firearm they have stated that a fired gun is worth more than a non-fired weapon. So if the OP's buddy plans to sell his collection they may not be worth much from what he expects.

True, he probably just doesn't want noobie calgunners approaching him telling him how his rifles are illegal because they don't have a BB or aren't featureless.
