Iron sights has been a mixed bag for me. I've dealt with a couple people there who were friendly, attentive and fast. And another guy who appeared to be hung over and couldn't care less about what he was doing. Maybe he's the new guy.

I am big fan of Iron Sights as well. I used to go there religiously all because of the great service...mind you I am driving past 3 other ranges and one is 10mins from my house. Im willing to drive that extra 45 mins for a great time at a great range.
You mention, they are requiring more than the law asks, but don't all gun shops have different rules. We all get different answers from the DOJ and the ATF...so I am sure all these gun shop owners get the same run around. With some many different laws, and none being concrete and clear cut, I can understand why some shops go a little above and beyond what is called for. You can't blame them really. Can't blame a shop also on how they want their business to be handled. Like the previous poster mentioned, if you really don't like it, go elsewhere...there are plenty of FFLs around the Vista/Oceanside area who are willing to do your PPT.

Gun shops should all be following the same rules even though that doesn't happen, I know what you mean by every place operating a little different. However, their job is to sell people guns (obviously to people who are allowed to obtain them) and by adding additional requirments, that will turn some people away. If I was going to drop $3000 on an AR with a ton of accessories they would have lost the sale and taken it down the street for example.
The other people working were great and it is a clean store and nice range. I have nothing bad to say in that aspect, but if you are making the statement of "it is mandatory and I need to take proof of residency on a long gun" either be able to back up why or just tell me it is a formality like the other guy working finally said and that will be the end of it."This country has a mental health problem disguised as a gun problem, and a tyranny problem disguised as a security problem." -Joe RoganComment
