Burglarized

At noon today, I got a call from a family friend that just got burgalarized.

The 19 year old daughter arrived home from school to find that the house was ransacked. I drove over and, when I got to the house, it was too quiet. So I pulled my revolver out of the trunk and holstered it. I knocked on the door and the daughter answered. I walked around and made sure that no one else was in the house. Also I made sure not to touch anything at all. I greeted the Sheriff's Depute and he got to work. I walked around and assisted in any way I could. I left the house when both owners (mother and father) returned home.

When the Sheriff's Depute arrived, he finger printed the enterence, exits, and items.

This is an odd case.

1.) Burglary happened between 7am-12noon. Small window, and they had to have known the family's schedule.
2.) The living room was, for the most part, untouched. None of the expensive media was touched. Looks like burglars went through bedrooms and hallway closet mainly. They went through the drawers. They did *not* steal a handgun that was in one of the drawrs though. Odd.
3.) Mexican painters were painting the house next door and had a CLEAR view of the backyard. They claimed not to have seen anyone though. They were there since 7am.
4.) Within the last 4 months, their neighbors have also been burgaled.

I live 1/4 of a mile away. Makes me think of my own family's home security. Oddly, everyhouse around us has been burglarizaed within the last 20 years except for ours.

sounds like they are dealing with a local. as for the Mexican painters, it is possible, but not definate, that they are a part of it. did they go through the front or the back?

What was stolen was jewelry and money as far as I know.

A similar case happened to my landlord when I use to live a duplex. He lived in one and I in the other. Apparently someone came in and stole a couple things, oddly enough they didn't steal stuff like appliances, electronics, etc just money and jewlery. I was even there, but didn't notice anything at all! The person who robbed them eventually knew their schedules and was probably someone who they knew. So my guess is, that it was probably someone who knew them or knew their schedule. I don't think it was the painters. They probably just thought it was someone who lived there and since they were concentrated on doing their job they probably wouldn't be paying attention. Also maybe people in that neighborhood should start a neigborhood watch to see if there are any suspicious people coming by or stopping ironically in certain areas.

like I said, sounds like a local. If it had been some one farther away, they could have taken alot more, whereas jewelry and money wouldnt be as noticable to the neighbors. Just my $.02

Taking the jewelry and leaving the gun and the high-end electronics says they didnt want to be seen leaving with arm loads of stuff. They only wanted things they could flat pocket. Sounds like a very fast in and out. Things that cross my mind are:

Painter takes piss break-- breaks into house and comes back fast with only pocketed stuff. No one notices.

Is the daughter troubled at all or does she have any friends or a boyfriend that are (not trying to be insensitive)? Middle class kids don't know where to hock guns.

What is the profile of the other houses that have been burgled. Is the MO the same (break small window and take cash and jewlery only) or different. If the same check to see if anyone in common exists between residences (maids etc) and do any of the others have kids who are troubled.

Who has worked in their house in the past 6 months.

Do they order in pizza or other types of delivery foods a lot? Also newspapers or bottled water or any regular service that comes to the house.

Anyone go door to door that day soliciting things like painting your addy on the curb?

Anyone they work with that would know their schedule?

Make sure the home computer is dusted as well as stealing personal information is very popular these days.

Be prepared for the house to possibly be hit again for the stuff that was left behind.

Very unfortunate situation and on a side note, be sure to keep your valuables out of your vehicles, especially at this time of year. I recently had some car stereo equipment stolen from my car, in front of my residence. When I went to replace what was stolen, the salesman said that this is the time of year when auto burglaries/thefts increase. The cold weather and rain act as noise suppressors and few want to get out of a warm bed to check on an annoying alarm (if they even hear it at all).

Same thing happend to me

It was during the middle of the day and they came in an open upstairs window. They climbed onto a patio cover to get access to the window.

They stole $500 in silver that we had collected. We have an alarm and it was on. No motion sensor up stairs so once they hit the bottom step on the stairs the alarm was a blarrin! I had two guns under my bed adn thankfully still own them. I bought a massive safe and all valuables are now loked inside it and a motion sensor now covers the upstairs also.

First burglary in the neighborhood. Finger prints taken for point of entry ect... We are very lucky. Its a real personal thing to have your home robbed. Take precautions ppl, please protect your self and your stuff.

In our town a lot of the burglaries turned out to be done by local kids(s) maybe 16-20 yrs old, they all hang out with each other at their parents houses and know about the house's contents, timetable of the family, etc, it only takes one bad kid to do something like this.

This happened in Cerritos, Turby.

Anyways, I spoke to the Cerritos Sheriffs and, apparently, Cerritos is notorious for burglaries due to being a relative wealthier city than the surrounding towns and the multiple freeway access points. They happen here every day of the year.
