With LE we typically encounter, PD/SO/CHP, we can request that a supervisor be present...can that also be done with DFG?Comment

Good reason to take your battle rifle to ranges and not the sticks.
Once a friend of mine got a ticket for parking in a no parking zone, and he had his "bag o pot" confiscated. He went to court and the judge fined him for the parking ticket. He asked the judge, "What about the pot?". The judge said, "What pot?". LOL.
Seriously, where is your rifle? Can you verify they have it, or it's not in that guy's personal possession?RKBA Clock: soap box, ballot box, jury box, cartridge box (Say When!)

The OP didn't say if he was hunting or not. If so, he was breaking the law.
Otherwise, I hope he get's his gun back soon.Comment

UPDATE:
As of 1:56PM I got my gun back. I was hunting with it. The rangers took it because they thought it was a AW and wrote me a citation for 12280. I told them I was clear from AW because I have a Bullet Button on it making it a non-detachable magazine. He went to check if it was registered as a AW and couldnt find it so he said it was AW. I went to the shop I purchased it from and got a purchase record and faxed it to DFG. He called back saying he was mistaken and I can pick it up. So I did.
When I got there he said he didnt realize it had a BB, I told him that I pointed that out first before he confiscated it, but he seized to hear me out.
The question now is, should we press charge? Im thinking about it. I drove 10 hour round trip because his negligence!
PS: Its not illegal to hunt with a AR. thats just FUD.
PSS: How can I forget, I am SO SORRY, the frustration just got me all raddeled! THANKS EVERYONE FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

Give him hell
yes you need to press charges
If they want to enforce the law, they need to know the law
breaking the law is not acceptable and needs to be punished
he broke the law, the book needs to come down"Americans have the right and advantage of being armed - unlike the citizens of other countries whose governments are afraid to trust the people with arms." James Madison

YES press charges for whatever you can. It is only through the law that they will learn. I would start with a written complaint against the officer. see that it makes it's way into his employment file. When he comes up for review it will be a thorn in his side in salary reviews. He'll pay for his mistake one way or another.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Please let us know if you move forward and what the outcome is/was.

Im glad to hear this turned out much better than it could have
mistakes cost everyone money
this could have been extremely costly for you (lost pay, legal fees, etc)
ignorance is not an excuse of the law
He stole from you, thus needs to charged for his actions

Illegal to hunt with a center fire that will hold more than five rounds? Please cite the PC."When chosing between two evils, I always like to try the one I've never tried before." - Mae WestComment

Thanks, but you can hunt with a 100rd mag if you had it before 2000.
