The Savage Edge is a new design not based on the two or three digit rifles. Sure, it has the barrel nut and floating lugs but that is about it.
The Edge has a unique plastic modular trigger group design that forms part of the mag well it will be difficult for the aftermarket to work with. Anyway, who puts a 175 dollar trigger and 450 dollar barrel in a 400 dollar rifle. Ammo cost will out pace the rifle cost quickly.
The scopes offered with the package will not do well at 100 yards and beyond. This rifle is a very basic hunting package not intended for even poor target shooting. You should bore of it very quickly. Not comparable to the Remington 700 at all. Not in any way.
You want to compare the two and three digit Savages with the Rem 700.
Get a Model 10 Savage and mount a 16X or larger scope with a good one piece mount and get busy. If you find you need more than that sell and get the Remington. You are on your way to a great experience.

Barrels in all calibers, stocks of all flavors and colors, and triggers that are light, crisp, and shooter tune-able are available for Savage's....how many custom parts can you use anyway?

Remmy's are customized a lot, because the round receiver chucks up nicely in a lathe. Major work on a Savage can be done by.......yourself.

Besides, what kind of bargain are you really getting if you have to upgrade a Remington right away, to make it shoot as good as a Savage?

People say this all the time, but must not have shopped much for Savage upgrades. There are many companies supporting, and many more working on products, to support the Savage line. Both rifles have their quirks. Some forums you go to will be Savage forums, some forums will be Remmy forums. Go feel em both, shoot em both, and decide based on that. Either way, you will get a quality firearm.

Yea savage is better.... I guess thats why most(NOTICE I SAID MOST NOT ALL) custom actions are modeled after the Remington action. Lets just agree to disagree and not clutter this thread with our personal OPINIONS.

I didn't say Savage was better. I didn't say Remington is better. You're putting words in my mouth because you're mad I don't agree with you.

I said both rifles are quality firearms, each has quirks and a different feel. Different strokes for different folks. Now lower your blood pressure 5 points and just ACCEPT the fact that not everyone will hate Savages.

Awesome for the money, but more expensive than the set up from Savage this guy is looking for.

I have a Kimber 8400 in 270, and two Rem 700's, one in 308 and one in 30-06. The Rem is a very nice shooter, but for the money I spent on the Rem, the Kimber holds it own against nicely.

I have heard a few things about the kimber, and they are incredibly light. I'm looking to spend roughly $1k on a full scoped setup. So I'm kinda looking at the rifles in the 500-700$ range

Then consider a Tikka T3. They are light and accurate, and durable. Not as many upgrades as a Rem, but cheaper for the features. Comes with scope mounts, too.

Beautiful rifles guys. I still love the way the rem sits. Is it true that the stock is the weakest link of the rem?
