Re: Open Carry California
I will be more than happy to throw my nuts on a scale for you.So true. Its kind of useless to be carrying a gun if you dont have the balls to use it if the need truly arises. Shooting paper is A LOT different than shooting a living, breathing human being. It's because they are just looking for the reactions from the people in those so called "Safe Neighborhoods" and in reality don't want to really have
It is even more useless to not have a gun. I am certain that that little tidbit of information is something that you can easily grasp.Comment

I used to think Unloaded open carry was a good thing to exercise, but have since changed my opinion.
Unloaded Open carry in order to simply exercise your rights is detrimental to your (our) rights. Its like saying, "Hey world! Look at me! I have a gun! And thats my right!"
Real Unloaded open carry needs to be reserved for those who genuinely need to do so. Otherwise, the problems mass open carry will cause may bring about a loss of rights for those who genuinely need to open carry.
Almost happened a few months ago. I say UOC is a good thing, but ought not be publicized like it is. It makes us look obnoxious.
Its like a gay guy talking in public to everyone about his sex life. Keep it on the down low, and people will be more accepting and understanding. Proclaim it loudly and obnoxiously, and folks may try to take away your rights.Comment

Not everyone likes or sees a need for gays either. Gays being gay in public does the same for some as guns do for others. Your argument is that gays are not offensive but guns are. You are wrong. Both guns and gays are offensive to some members of the community. Both enjoy constitutional protection. If gays can be gay in your face, so can gun toters.Let's use your Gay example for comparison:
25 openly gay men and women "swish" into Peets Coffee all wearing their "Gay Pride" shirts. I am pretty sure there would be some raised eyebrows and comments by some of the patrons but there would not be any public fear of someone accidentally or intentionally trying to have intimate relations with them. What's the worst that would happen? Maybe they would decorate or clean the place. When is the last time you heard about a randon act of "Gayness" in the news that killed or injured someone? Now here come those 25 men again all openly carrying guns into the same place. What's the worst that can happen there? Who knows, that is where the fear from the general public comes into play and problems start.
The point is that the difference here is Guns, and not everyone likes or sees a need for guns.Comment

Well, I've never seen an OC event where people were freaked, grossed or put out. It's the concleaed gun that "peeks" at people that draws concern. As the OCers say, "What banger walks around with a gun on his hip?" The bad guys don't follow the law, OCers do. It's not illegal, and each event ends up with several previously unenlightened individuals going away with a new appreciation for the law, exercising of rights, and even a desire to participate.Let's use your Gay example for comparison:

The point is that the difference here is Guns, and not everyone likes or sees a need for guns. It's the way it is and force feeding the idea onto those that don't want it is not a positive 2A move. My opinion is being quiet about guns and the 2A movement is the right thing to do in a Peet's coffee house where you have nothing to gain and eveything to loose by meeting there. I am a gun owner and I would be uncomfortable if these guys all came in when I was there with my family too. There is a time and place for everything. Being vocal and involved about 2A issues is important on November second by voting for people that hopefully will see things the same way you do.
There have been no problems at an OC rally or event, except where some jerk LEO decides to ignore the law, or operate in ignorance of it.
As OC becomes more common, those few people that are disturbed by it will come around. They may not like it, but there won't be the paranoia. But that point really is a side issue. We're have the right to self defense and to carry. These are both honorable things, whereas the happy subject of my OP can't be described as so. It's an exercise of rights and an opportunity for valuable education.DON'T give the ANTIs ideas. Debate the faults of anti-gun legislation AFTER it passes. Debating beforehand affects NOTHING, but it gives them technical advantages during the drafting and amending.Comment

Now THERE are some wild comments. How would either of you know? You guys have some awesome sixth sense on the issue? Part of carrying is not to be a freaking idiot. That should be obvious. "Shooting paper is A LOT different than shooting a living, breathing human being." No ****, Sherlock. Read up on the original intent of the 2nd and then talk about paper targets vs. human targets....
Some people just... never mind.... might as well be a clueless LEO.DON'T give the ANTIs ideas. Debate the faults of anti-gun legislation AFTER it passes. Debating beforehand affects NOTHING, but it gives them technical advantages during the drafting and amending.Comment

You missed my point. I am not saying one is more acceptable than the other. What I am saying is people with guns in public places can be a problem and people will fear for their safety because guns used in the wrong way have proven far too many times to kill. Gays out in public do not project the same fear. Not everyone likes or sees a need for gays either. Gays being gay in public does the same for some as guns do for others. The worst part is when you take a picture of your group and try to post it up here on Calguns. The mods here are pretty wimpy, and will nuke the thread immediately...
Apparently paper groups are OK, but flesh groups are not cool.Comment
