You're going to shoot people for what amounts to a purse snatching...your camera, whatever cash in your wallet, and credit cards are not worth the potential future stress of having taken a life. PTSD doesn't just happen in war zones.

Also, you shot them in the back after the threat has ceased so a good prosecutor would hang you for it. It is also somewhat disturbing to me that you would actively try to dream of shooting a person, thug or not.

FKitty, I completely disagree with you. There are many ways that a situation like this can occur and play out, for good or bad, but this seems like a possible worse case scenario. Statistics have shown that the actual occurence of CCW holders involved in illegal shootings are next to none. Many times CCW are revoked due to ND's in the home rather than shooting deserving criminals.

On point that you make, that really stands out was that below:

Who carries a gun without a round chambered? That's an empty gun if you ask me and a useless tool. Holsters are designed to protect the trigger so you can carry with a round chambered.

CCW is a lifestyle and requires you to exercise caution and situational awareness. You had better have the gun out prior to them getting hands on you and your gun better be ready to go into action.

And for everyone saying the loss of credit cards, money, and camera isn't worth displaying a weapon. Well, that seems like great logic, but its also hindsight. How do you know that all they want/will do is take your belongings? You don't, they may take the money, then attack you, you never know the enemies end goal.

I know that me being able to carry has defused several situations where I believe would have resulted in some confrontation.

That's a different scenario than what the op presented. In the OP's dream, the threat has ceased. They are fleeing; the OP draws his weapon and shoots the fleeing perp in the back. That's an entirely different animal than stopping something while it is in progress.

Killing for stuff is not good... If they are going to kill you, you kill them first.

I agree...I would'nt shoot anyone "over a wallet or a camera." However, if anyone confronted me in a violent manner (i.e. tried to commit strong-arm robbery) to steal my property, I would have no problem pulling out my concealed handgun to thwart their assault. Would I just draw and shoot? Depends on the circumstances. If they display a knife or other non-firearm deadly weapon (like a tire-iron), I'd probably shoot, though hold out hope that the surprise of bringing a gun into the mix would cause the BG to back off...in any case there is precious little time for action in that scenario. If they had a gun, it would depend on my ability to draw and get off a shot in this bad situation, but you can bet that if I decided to draw against another gun I would not hesitate at all.

"back of his head blown out..." sounds like an exit wound to me, which means a straight on threat.

Besides, this wasn't a legality question/issue of when or not to shoot. It was the fact that the ability to be issued a CCW would prevent violent confrontations and criminals having the ability to rob and steal with no resistance would be hindered if CCW's were issued as they should be.

In the real world, one wearing red and the other blue would be shooting at each other.

Mea Culpa, the ops two different scenarios blended together in my mind while writing my response. My concern over actively trying to dream about shooting someone still stands though.

You don't need a CCW, you need a shrink IMHO. You seem marginally parinoid, especially of minorities. Your congressman and former president have ripped you off for a lot more than a camera and you don't feel a need to point a gun in their face. If you don't want to get ripped off you need to live like Howard Hughes did, in lockdown.

If you need to carry that badly buy a two pocket fanny pack and put a dial lock on it one number off the combo...I'd suggest a Taurus millenium pro in the locked pocket and a loaded mag of 40 SW hollow points in the unlocked one. That's legal..

Im paranoid because i have BEEN IN THESE SITUATIONS, and seen friends robbed and beaten by thugs before? of course i have a degree of paranoia after going through situations like that. have you been robbed/assaulted before by gang bangers?

also in my dream (cant believe im argueing about this)...i shot the SECOND thug who was trying to assault me. the third thug was in the shadows behind him so i feared for my life. what if thug number 2 or 3 pulled out a pistol? then i had due right to shoot him first.

also, no one can know if PTSD occurs. for one, if i accidently shot a kid, etc. yes i would probably have terrible dreams. but some gang banging scum who threatened to kill me, i doubt i would loose sleep over that.

and 4 years for shooting someone that has threatened my life? well i guess its really time to move the hell out of CA.

maybe just close the thread. i guess the better course would be to never step outside my car in a bad area.

and if i DO get robbed...just let them take my stuff because they are disadvantaged and need the help right? since they cant use their welfare cards at strip clubs and casinos anymore, i should let them rob me to help pay that stuff. because i dont know how hard it is growing up in the hood right? im just a paranoid gun nut tea bagger.

Maybe some better situational awareness training along with some self defense course would help. I don't think a CCW would apply.

Because I grew up in the Bronx and I've never had anyone just take anything off me. How the heck would they get your wallet and camera?!? Would you just stand there shaking while they searched thru your pockets?!?

how about learning to not have to depend on use of lethal force as a way to stay out of trouble.

there are a MILLION ways this can be done, none of them involve killing someone over a wallet
you don't rise to the occasion,
you just fall back on your level of training.

I've had a fiance murdered, and had guns stuck in my face twice but I don't see a murderer on every street corner or think every minority member is going to jack me up for my iphone either.

I think you need to examine why you are so afraid in public places...its not like u live in sao paulo or rio...or kandahar...or detroit..
