Day Trip to Cabelas - Reno

My Dad lives real close to Cabela's in WA state, I go everytime I visit him and drool for hours.

Well, same thing happened to Sportsmans Warehouse. For the longest time their ammo and reloading shelves were bare yet they were opening new locations.

They've only been there for two years. I think we're getting a Bass Pro Shop next year!

I recently watched a video about a road trip to Reno Cabelas on youtube. Lots of driving through scenery and weather. Lots of talking about CA gun laws. Some of the photos look familiar.

The Cabelas in Reno is actually in Verdi where Boomtown is locaed, which is about 10 minutes closer to the state-line.

They have almost no reloading stuff like they used to before the election

All their primers and powder is behind the counter now and used to be 2 full aisles right near the live ammo

There is still some Sportsman's Warehouses, I just went to the one in Twin Falls ID a couple of weeks ago.

I will have to try to get my truck near Scheel's to go in there

Well, same thing happened to Sportsmans Warehouse. For the longest time their ammo and reloading shelves were bare yet they were opening new locations.

They got overstretched and had to sell off some stores or something very close to that. The CEO or somebody at that level wrote about it in their newspaper thing thats free. It was frustrating to see nothing on the shelves and know nothing was coming but that's passed now.

Okay I hope that Cabelas won't have to close some of their stores. It is seriously one of the coolest stores I've ever been into.

I went up there on June 11 to get myself a birthday present or two/three/+-1143. Went into Scheels for the first time and had to take a ride on the Ferris Wheel with the kids. Price on ammo was a bit higher the Cabela's, which is where I wound up picking up a Herters spam can of 7.62x39 and a dry box of Tula 223. And I went into U.S. Firearms Academy right up the street from Sportsmans warehouse to pick some parts. Real nice place also, they had the price in the store higher than on their website and corrected that for me while I was there. Cabela's had the Tula for $115, and the Herters was $170.

Why is that?

I go to the Sportsman's warehouse in Rocklin quite a bit. The shelves were looking pretty bare the last time I was there, and there was a bunch of stuff on clearance.

Cabela's is a fun place- but some of their staff really rubs me the wrong way.

I used to live in Northern Nevada - and would end up in there at least once a week, sometimes more. Even bought an old marlin .22 in there. The amount of BS I've heard from some of those people would make your head spin.

Cabela's is great because of the sheer fun factor of it all - but when the selection is there, sportsman's warehouse is a far superior store. Staff is more knowledgeable, more friendly, prices are better, and it's just a more enjoyable shopping experience overall. Even if they don't have a giant fish tank, ferris wheel, or fake mountain.
