Looking to get a 10mm

Ammo is hard to find locally. The upcoming mailorder/internet sales ban in 2011 will make things worse....

I am a reloader in the San Fernando valley area and have had lots for the last year.

In any case, don't overlook the Glock 29. I love my 20 and 29 but the 29 rules in my opinion. The 20 is just too big unless I'm carrying it OWB.

The G-20 is the best bargain for 10mm but that Kimber Eclipse is very nice indeed

I have a G20SF and a Smith 1006. Of the two I perfer the Glock. The wide grip gives you more to hang on to. This helps when shooting full power loads. They are both very accurate and lots of fun to shoot. I am in the East Bay and go to USI in Concord. If you are close you are welcome to shoot both of them. Sammy

I prefer shooting my Delta Elite, but I only shoot my G20. I do this because I take it in the hills and don't want to beat up my Colt. I not going to be upset beating up the Glock.

Both are great guns. You can't make a mistake with any of the 10mm guns.

I was considering a 10mm and the G20SF and Colt Delta Elite are on my list. I have a hookup so the Delta Elite is available to me through a PPT and at a discount.....still it costs a few hundred over the Glock. Decisions Decisions........

Hey there, was looking into getting a 10mm pistol, I am kind of leaning toward the Glock 20, but was wondering if anyone had some input on the Glock, or any of the other Manufacturers.

I wish I would've gotten a 10mm instead of my .40short bus G22.

I will say about Glock that I bought a factory refurb'd G22, put several thousand rounds through it over the next 3 years and one of the four slide retaining tabs molded into the lower/frame broke off...they replaced the frame with a new one for free.

I have a G20c and a G20sf. While I do not own a SW 610 or a Kimber Eclipse 10mm, I have shot them enough to make what I feel is a fair summary. The 20c offers very controllable recoil at the expense of velocity, more perceived noise and port flash (to be expected). The sf frame IMO gives better control of the beefy recoil for someone with normal sized mits. I have yet to try the sf frame with the comp slide, but I expect the control would be even more so. The polymer frame also adds recoil absorption which is quite nice when you are shooting 16 rounds for speed and precision.

The 610 with a 6.5" barrel offers just what one would expect: 6 shots which can be loaded pretty much as hot as the shooter desires. The heft of the gun offers a huge recoil advantage as does the sight radius. If you want maximum accuracy and velocity to your 6 rounds, I suggest the SW 610. 40 sw can also be shot without modifications.

The Kimber Eclipse gives the 1911 lovers a 10mm. I would not load the kimber to the same specs as the Glock though one could, and loading it to the abilities of the SW 610 is suicide. I love the feel of a 1911 trigger, and this gun delivers. For mid-range 10mm loads with a 8-10 round (cant remember exactly) capacity this is the gun for you. On the negative side, I have heard a few people complain about feeding issues, though I used several different loads without "successfully" jamming the gun.

Overall the 10mm is a fantastic cartridge. If you have the income to buy ammo or reload it, buy one! Which platform is up to you. I am currently in the middle of a 20SFL build: 20SF frame, Wolf Solid Longslide, completely custom trigger assembly, custom built and fitted Bar-Sto 6.75" oober barrel. Not sure on the sights or duracoat yet. My dealer cost on the gun will be around 2k... maybe more.


I know I did not come close to covering all the different barrel lengths and models... when I shoot them, I will review them.

Was at the range today instructing the other officers during a practice session... had time for 15 rds out of my glock 20... shot 40sw through it as usual... like the BVAC hp round too... but the 40 is cheaper... definitely love my glock 20... took my duty weapon off an stashed it in the car and put that 20 in my TT Gunleather IWB and went to the gun shop to do some business... it don't get better than that... range/shoot/gunshop/Thai food for dinner...

Thanks for all the info, I think I am gonna stick with what I wanted initially, the G20. But I have to go and check one out first. I like my XD40, so I am used to the polymer. Again, thanks for your input. And I plan on re-loading so ammo will not be a problem.

I've got a Glock 20SF, a Glock 29, and I have a 1911 I'm building in 10mm that is about 90% done.

If you shoot the generic Federal/Win ammo, you will think it's nothing more than a .40S&W. When you shoot full power loads, you'll know it.

You can't go wrong with the 10mm, it's my favorite round hands down and the one I choose from general defensive duties around the house and when out and about.

Now, I'm a huge fan of Glock ever since I bought my G20, which was my first Glock. I swore I'd never own a Glock, and I hated how they looked. Boy, how the love of the 10mm turned me around on owning my Glock. Now, I don't want anything else, at all!

Try the G20 and the G20SF to see which one fits your hands. There's also the G29 which is the sub-compact version which is also the 10mm. This is handy if you're looking to save some space and weight.

Oh, also the nice thing about the Glock is with a barrel switch you can shoot .40's without changing anything else. Same magazines and everything.
