Once he has to deal with a few airport numskulls he'll change his mind.
Uncle was telling me a funny story about flying once. Filled out the paperwork for his guns, go over it all. Woman behind the desk or whatever asks him if he has any other weapons on him. He says "well yea, I have my knife" (he carries a pocket knife regularly, just because, well, it's a good thing to have).
Lady looks at him dead serious. "you can't take a knife on a plane, that's a security risk".
meanwhile - he just filled out paperwork for, and had a conversation about, carrying a Glock 21 on his person, on the plane.
He had to get the supervisor to come over. When she explained to the supervisor that he has a knife - he looked at her and said "and you realize he has a gun too, right?"
You would think once you get to a certain level, some of the ignorance would go away - but, no.
