'Don't buy a Taurus' is advice I was giving people back in 1987.http://members.aol.com/Namerakis/Taurus_Repair.htm
I plan on posting this link all over the internet.
Feel free to pass it on.
The same advice holds true twenty years later. -
Sure it does. There's been hundreds of gun folks all over the web reading it since I posted it yesterday. I just clicked it and it worked for me. Maybe try it again in a minute or two.Your link doesn't work

I taped them to the top of the TAURUS GUN BOX... not the UPS shipping box it was packed it.
Also I was told by the rep that it wasn't necessary to do that since she typed in their computer system EXACTLY what the requested repair was.Comment

I'd find out what the cost is to re-blue the gun and then I'd send them a demand letter.
Either send a check for the re-bluing costs or they should send a postage paid overnight box and then put the gun at the front of the repair queue and repair it immediately and return. (No waiting three months for them to fix it.)
If they don't do either, take them to small claims court.sigpic

Man, that really, really sucks! That thing looks like it was blued with an imitation magic marker. I doubt that anyone there ever even looked at it. How could anyone who is supposed to be a gunsmith, or even a tech., think you wanted it to look like that? I sure hope my Taurus never needs service - I guess the lifetime guarantee is that you are guaranteed a lifetime of sending you gun back and forth??? PLease post if you ever do get some resolution from them on this one.http://members.aol.com/Namerakis/Taurus_Repair.htm

OH! Apparently you didn't get it, did you? What part of this can't you comprehend?
It's an Unlimited LIFETIME Repair Policy warranty.
That means it will take you a LIFETIME to get them to repair it!
Silly you!

The gun is 3 years old and I bought it brand new.
I have been shooting guns for over 20 years.
I shot black powder cartridges through the gun, because I was considering buying my retired father a civil war replica that fired cartridges and wanted to see what black power cartridges would be like. (In the end I bought him a true muzzle-loader 1851 Colt Navy Replica instead)
Black powder is very corrosive. (More so than I realized)
I regularly shoot rounds with corrosive primers through my Remington 30-06 with no problems but I guess black powder is much different.
They say to clean the gun right away. I took that to mean as soon as you get home, but it apparently means IMMEDIATLY after firing the gun.
When I got home a couple hours later and cleaned the gun with warm SOAP & WATER the bluing washed off like lipstick. I later lubed it up with some Break-Free, but the damage was already done.
Is it my fault for not cleaning it sooner? Yes.
Does that mean I deserved to be dicked around and lied to by Taurus for 4 months? Hell no!Comment

Ok here's my take. the north american service center is just that. Nobody does major plating or coating in the US anymore except for small jobs. either way, the EPA is all up in their *** and it costs plenty for overhead. If Taurus could send your revolver back to Brazil, they would have been able to get it re-blued cheaper, but I think the problem they had was that they didn't have a good way to get corporate to cover the cost of a domestic reblue from an subcontracted service.
Sometimes you can keep your blood pressure down by just letting things slide from the BP incident and just sending it off for a reblue at a reputable gun refinisher for whatever...say $150. Of course the guy who buys a taurus may have a hard time spending the extra money (that would have bought them a smith) on repairs. Just like my mom, I swear she will never buy anything unless it is on ad.
basically you found out what the service center can not do.Comment
