I'm in Ca, have been searching for a good priced place for an M1A scout. Buds seems to be the cheapest place at 1500. Local turners is roughly 1800. My question is how exactly does this work? I call them and order the gun then have it shipped to FFL? Or do I tell them who the FFL is and they call him? This FFL thing is a bit confusing.

Typically you need to have your receiving FFL send their license to the seller and the seller ships the item to that FFL. Once it arrives you can start your 10 day wait. I found some pretty good deals on Davidsons Gun Genie. You pay a deposit and then the rest when the gun comes, and you don't have to deal with getting the license faxed over. -
I have bought all my guns out of state, with the exception of one.
1. Go to the website & order rifle/shotgun/handgun.
2. Put your local FFL's street address as the delivery address. (Make sure your FFL excepts "out-of-state" transfers. Search if your not sure your local FFL does.)
3. The shipping FFL will need a fax/e-mail copy of your local FFL's license.
4. After the shipping FFL confirms the FFL license, they will ship it. (Handguns must ship Overnight Air. Rifle/Shotguns can ship Ground/USPS.)
5. Next call your local FFL to tell them this rifle/shotgun/handgun is to be delivered & to expect it.
6. After it arrives at your local FFL, they will usually call you or you can check the tracking # to see if it was delivered.
7. Go in to your local FFL & start the DROS.
8. After the 10-day waiting period is over, take rifle/shotgun/handgun home.
If it needs to be made "CA-legal", then simply put your "Middleman" as the receiving FFL. After he receives it & makes it ready to ship to CA, he will ship it to your local FFL exactly as described above.Last edited by rct442; 05-12-2010, 9:44 AM.Comment

post 2 and 3 pretty much nailed it. Another thing though.....once the FFL that is doing the DROS has the serial number for the gun you can actually start the DROS process. not all FFL's will do that for you, but some of them will be nice enough to give you those few extra days of shipping time as DROS time too. The problem is, if a gun with different serial numbers shows up, you're screwed. But if the shipping company is trustworthy and the FFL is ok with it, it's always worth shaving a few days off of purgatory.sigpic

could be, i just know that all the rifles/shotguns i ordered got DROSed during shipping after the FFL got the SN's.....could have just waited until he knew an approximate arrival date was within 10 days and just told me he needed the SN's...either way i didn't have to wait as long as i could have, which was awesome!sigpic

Buds has great prices. Look into their credit card. You can buy your scout interest free.
Pay them and let them know who your local FFL is. They will transfer to to them. You can pick it up after your 10 day wait.
The M1A scout is a great rifle.

Buds gun shop has some restrictions.......... Anyone ever buy a rifle from them?

Word of advice ask different FFL's what their charge is for ordering online. Some places make out like bandits!!! I've been Told $125+$25 DROS fee just to have the item shipped to them! Look Around man.Comment
