I wear gloves after I noticed what Shooter's Friend does to non-metal materials. I also wear glasses, but that's because they're prescription.

Pretty much just lay a towel down on the kitchen table before I clean. No gloves or glasses. Although I did get hit in the eye one time with CLP when I squirted it. That stung for about a minute and then I went on cleaning. The only thing I ever worry about is getting my finger oils on the guns before I put them away. I never understood wearing gloves when you're cleaning, they just get in the way."The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure."

I wear my BBR apron sometimes if I'm wearing good clothes when cleaning. Beyond that Hoppes ain't crap compaired to some of the crap my hands have been in.I'm only smiling at you while you talk to me because it's hilarious that you really think I give a crap about you.
As I've gotten older I thought I was gaining patience, then I realized I simply don't give a crap.Comment

I don't use PPE. I don't try to get any on me either. I will start using gloves.Comment

I wear the same pair of perscription safety glasses I wear when shooting. other than that I dont bother with any gloves or anything else. The stuff I run into at work is way worse anyway.Yes, I am an electrical engineer.
No, I will not fix your computer.Comment

This. And I guess if it does count then the cloth to protect the table but even then I don't care when it gets all over the place. I'd rather have a clean gun and a dirty table than the other way around.Comment

copper and lead solovent is ammonia based, thats not too bad, oil clp, thats pretty clean. gun scrubber that can get nasty.
once in the army a friend of mine took a drink out of the solovent tank we used to clean weapons. i think that **** was kerosene based.

Having been an Operator in a refinery for over 30-years, I should know better.
My biggest gripe are the odors. Ventillation at home is a beotch, short of a hooded work area. I recently bought some Montana Extreme Copper Killer. I had heard it had a strong ammonia smell. Well I took a wiff and jumped out of my chair screaming. That sheeeet is crazy! Make Hoppes #9 smell like candy...
I'll get some nitrol gloves (best type around chems) and use a fan next. I've already poisoned myself with benzene, hydrogen sulfide, misc hydrocarbons, etc. No need to expedite the proccess, LOL...
Proper PPE ain't about being a wimp. In fact, think I'll read the MSDS and see what the TLV and exposure limits.Last edited by chiselchst; 05-11-2010, 10:59 PM.My Opinion - Worth What You Paid For It...
