There's a bit fear and loathing going on in this thread. Some of it unwarranted and a little concerning that some here are indirectly simply against people packing. I say WTF to that.

Printing is not brandishing. However most of this conversation about problems with some printing relates to being in California, where since CCW's for all intensive purposes mostly not given to the people, it is not in the social conscious of the people. It's not like they have friends and family with a CCW, and they just are brain tracked to think guns must equal BAD!

If in a place like AZ, TX, FL, ID, UT, etc. and you saw a brief print on someone stretching or something, you would find most people probably assume CCW and are use to it and it is not going to be a problem, again though context is what is important. There is simply less FUD around it.

Really, unless something bad is surrounding the situation, I am not going to tweak about seeing a print, prima facie. Could be LE for all I know. Could be a CCW. Could be a criminal who cares not for the law or you anyway. Simply having the firearm is not necessarily a queue to panic, is it? Assume anything can happen and even what you don't see, which often is more the case. I tell people whom can't understand shall issue CCW all the time, you probably have been around in your daily life in public with people packing illegally without knowing it. Why is it you would have an issue with people legally certifying for it who want to follow the law? Those people are more likely friendly than foe.

The real thing I find interesting in these forums is that most Cal Gunners would not even answer their front door without guns in hand or close by when a magazine salesman or other "unknown" person is on the other side (most likley unarmed). Yet, outside of that front door where you may see someone who is also "unknown" to you attempting to conceal a gun you have no concerns what so ever, and you just keep on eating your french fries???

Once again, there are things that still amaze me every time I sign in here.
        Very true indeed.

          In California.

There are states (shall-issue states) that have VERY strict brandishing laws.
Their attitude is that concealed is concealed. If anyone else knows that you are carrying, it's brandishing. They lack the "rude or threatening manner" clause in their laws.

I concur as I beleive the Penal Code for brandishing includes the act of holding the weapon. I could be wrong.

Display in a threatening or rude manner.

Say you are legally CCW, and get into a confrontation. You do not feel that deadly force is warranted, so you don't want to draw, but you want to quickly defuse the situation... you draw your jacket back to reveal the holstered weapon.
Since the context is some kind of confrontation, and the act of exposing the gun is an implied threat that you WILL use it if the other party does not back down, it would be brandishing.

Dramatic? The guy pulls out a gun at a restaurant and shoots 6 people, killing 4 of them. This proves that not all guys that are packing are good people hence my concern. Printing or not, these types of crimes cause concern for others (like me) when they see someone with a gun that is not an obvious LEO.

Who uses this term? When did the meaning of "printing" change from what kids do in first grade before they learn to write in cursive. Kinda like the meaning of "gay" changed from meaning being happy to something totally different now.

If someone was carrying and you could tell, why don't you just say it? I'm not impressed with your use of meaningless slang.
This is a gun forum. So even by the definitions you posted "printing" would not be meaningless slang.
