Just before the the register assualt weapon thing happened Colt was the way to go. I think the choices were Colt,Bushmaster,Olymic Arms and Armalite/American Eagle.
When the panic buying started before R.A.W. I remember the sales guys selling them at gunshows/stores saying whatever was in stock was the best AR. I think they all sold out in cali. Anyone else remember this?

Go with whatever you can afford. Then upgrade. So many parts out there.

Saw a guy sell an unfired COLT AR-15 yesterday to California Police Equipment in San Diego. I have no idea what the store will retail this AR for, but it is a beauty. Too bad I already have two - - wife would leave me if __.

Most civilization is based on cowardice. It's so easy to civilize by teaching cowardice. You water down the standards which would lead to bravery. You restrain the will. You regulate the appetites. You fence in the horizons. You make a law for every movement. You deny the existence of chaos. You teach even the children to breathe slowly. You tame.

The biggest thing that separates problematic ARs from ones working well over the long term is having a chrome-lined barrel (w/chamber). And lubricating the gun properly with CLP according to the USGI manual.

The past 15 years I've been dealing with ARs, the ones I've helped debug that have problems are the ones that don't have chrome lined barrels and/or are not properly lubricated. Crappy mags from "USA Mfg" and "PMI" also have played a role. And some bright boys from the M1A/M14 world have tried to use "grease" as a lubricant on ARs - which leads to utterly and stunningly brilliant failures.

Whatever you do, just make sure you don't go with a UTG quad rail because you'll be crucified.
