Last hotel I stayed in I had in the room with me 2 AR's, 1 AK variant, 2 pistols, and a thousand + rounds of ammo...of course it was a hotel in Pahrump, and I was there for Frontsight.

You are also confusing hotel logistics with carry logistics... the point of having a firearm in a hotel room is so that if someone kicks in your door you have the means to defend yourself.... and in this respect a shotgun is less problematic... getting into and out of the hotel room.

And I consider legality and logistics to be intimately related.... seeing as how ANYTHING is easy once you decide that legality is not a necessary requirement...

Hmm. Maybe I am confused. You specifically mentioned bringing your shotgun to breakfast in a bag. This puts you in a different situation altogether compared to having it in your room, where you can have it at the ready and no one would be any the wiser. Out at breakfast, what do you do if it's a buffet - carry your bag with you while you try to juggle a plate of eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, pancakes, syrup, and your morning juice? Not to mention the utensils and napkins as well. I guess you could carry the bag with you as you gather your food - but then this calls into play the basic question - how is this any easier? You would still be at a reaction disadvantage, albeit slightly better prepared than the next guy who might be sitting there with a newspaper only and maybe a plastic knife.

Ah yes. Hotels in Pahrump. Those have to be some of the safest hotels in the country.

I always travel with my handgun. Ever spent the night at a motel in Yakima, WA? That is one seriously scary town! Literally, groups of gang bangers on every street in some parts of town.

I could see this getting stuck if pushed to to tight of a position. Atleast from what I can tell by the picture. Cool idea though

A cooler idea is the latch that virtually ever hotel in this country has. Lockable from the inside only and no key from the outside. Problem is if you kick hard enough the door comes open. Those little devices don't really do anything.

True, but if it delays the bad guy long enough for you to

a) call the cops
b) get out your defensive weapon
c) take cover behind the bed / couch

...then those locking devices have served their purpose.

My job often has me traveling to rough areas for a night or so. It's something thats always been on my mind. Does anyone here take a pistol with them to hotels(obviously locked up and seperate from ammo for the travel.)? I'd assume it's legal. Isnt there a law say that a dwelling you live in is considered a legal place to have your gun for protection? I'd sleep a lot better in fresno, victorville, Bakersfield..ect with a pistol on the nightstand.
