Sleeping armed at hotels.

My job often has me traveling to rough areas for a night or so. It's something thats always been on my mind. Does anyone here take a pistol with them to hotels(obviously locked up and seperate from ammo for the travel.)? I'd assume it's legal. Isnt there a law say that a dwelling you live in is considered a legal place to have your gun for protection? I'd sleep a lot better in fresno, victorville, Bakersfield..ect with a pistol on the nightstand.

I'm in the same situation with work and always bring it. Cross town or cross country. There are laws allowing you to do so, the same laws allow you to bring your weapon to your tent while camping. I'm sure the more legal savvy here will be able to quote PC codes.

Thanks for the replies! Now the only problem I see is going to dinner at night. Do I leave her all alone in the hotel room, or in the car? Both could get broken into.

And you don't have to transport mags separate from the gun in its locked case, but it isn't a bad idea.

Where are they usually? I havent seen one in the past few years, but now that you mention it I have seen them somewhere in the past. Maybe finding a real good hiding spot in the room is the best bet?

Many hotel rooms have a little safe in the room. If not, you can always put it in a discreet locked case and hand it to the clerk at the front desk to put in their safe. Hotels aren't liable for stuff stolen from your room but usually they are responsible for what you hand them to store in their safe.

I travel quite a bit and stay at midgrade+ hotels and I almost never see safes in hotel rooms anymore.

I've brought a gun with me on a few family trips (one where we were staying in hotels/motels, others were camping trips) I just lock the gun up while en route, then take it out when were settled in for the night.

However, we were planning to take an RV trip soon, what are the laws regarding guns in a vehicle that also happens to be a habitable domicile?

I like these. They come with about a 2' long cable that can be wrapped around anything solid and then locked back in the box so it can't be taken. It works to secure the box in the car, wrapped around the seat frame, etc or in the hotel room.
