Loaded pistol on the night stand every night those neoprene computer mousepads work great for sitting your gun on the night stand no scratches and keeps gun from sliding around

I keep my springfield 1911 or sometimes my smith 686 loaded with hornady TAP in my night stand in a pistol rugI like the smith better because you never have to worry about it failing in times of need. My MOD. 66 use to be the gun of choice until I realized that I never want to lose it if something bad happens or I get robbed. I've done it so long that it's hard to sleep without one

At home I sleep with my Mossy 500 Loaded with the slide action open and a round in the elevator ready to return to battery. 00 buck is the round of choice. If I were out camping, I'd have ready to go, safety on, and my XD45 ready with one in the chamber under my pillow...

While sleeping Su-16 loaded and chambered, no safety. 5 Magazines sitting next to it. During the day. SU-16 loaded and chambered, safety on.

Camping, nothing. I'm not really concerned about bears, and when I go backpacking, not very many people get out there. I think my knife could do a good job.

Let's say you are camping out in the open, or in a small tent, and you want to keep your rifle/shotgun nearby. How do you do it safely?
Wanna hear a funny, maybe scary one? October I was in bear country. We found a reasonably fresh bear print not far from our campsite. I was sleeping with a pistol loaded inside my bag. It takes way too long to get out of a bag if a bear's on you. The safety was on, the hammer was down (SAO pistol) with a round in the chamber.

How did I sleep with it in my bag? Carefully.

Heh, amazing... I remember posting 'chamber empty, mag full' in the past on another board, and getting jumped on for being under-prepared.

However, I think in bear country I might be persuaded to go with the PTR-91 in a collapsed stock config, hot chamber with the safety on. Handgun-ish handling, 308 punch.

Ruger P91 .40 within arms reach. Mossy 500 in the safe.

If I have to open the safe...the crap is definitely hitting the fan! I feel sorry for whoever is on the receiving end. I have MANY options!

xd-9 loaded, chambered with winchester SXT, and a glock light between the bed and the nightstand on the carpet.

Cocked and locked springer 1911 loaded, chambered with winchester SXT, also within arms reach in case I need backup from my better half!

Benelli tactical nova 12 gauge loaded, chambered, safety on with 3 #4 shot, followed by 3 00 buckshot.

OLL in closet nearby, loaded, chambered, safety on, hi-cap mags (and maglock allen ) nearby

What good is an unloaded gun?

... oh yeah, G22, locked in a case in the other room... Not really planning on bringing that out ...
