Their Fire rating is better than average. Prices seem above average, though, too, based on their size.
Look at the thickness of the steel - 10 guage or thicker is ideal. 12 is common.
Last I checked, Costco had a couple of really nice safes in the 1K range that were competitive, spec wise, with other safes in the $2500+ range.

My dad bought a Sportsman Steel safe almost 20 years ago. It's built like a tank and looks like the day he bought it.
The best part is you can go to them in Long Beach and see it in person. They will also custom build them for you.To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.

I have never done business with that company but others here have and well...See for yourself.
Good Luck. I would also say 10 gauge is minimum. There is a wide array of them out there. I like Brownings. Just remember that for the most part, they are all UL rated RSC's.
This is also a good ref guide.

What's your budget? Do you have a lot of high end guns or is your collection more average budget? The Winchester safe at Costco is $500 and holds quite a bit. If it's secured properly it would certainly slow down your average thief though a pro would probably get in pretty easy. I don't have any high end guns and live in a decent area so I'm more worried about keeping out kids and your average burglar.Originally posted by Daytripper63"Looking a bit angry, he asked why I thought it was a Republican truck. Costco has a decent Winchester safe for $500... I dont think it's on their website, but they have it in the stores.
Safe weights 499 lbs, took myself and 4 buddies to get it into my place and we barely got it in there, so you can be relatively sure burglars wont be walking off with it.sigpicin the hands of

I'd look into Cannon Safes. They are located in San Bernardino. Their warranty is one of the best in the business, and they have something for every budget..

If your not in a hurry -- watch for holiday sales.
I picked up a Liberty Colonial at a holiday sale.
The difference in the sale paid for the delivery & installation.
Even though I have moved & installed large objects in construction like a 5 ton block of concrete moved Egyptian style (hand lever & skids) I was very happy to have them install the safe.Spreading the WORD according to COLT. and Smith, Wesson, Ruger, HK, Sig, High Standard, Browning

If you just need something to keep your kids away from your firearms or the casual smash-and-grab burgler, pretty much any halfway decent safe will do if it's bolted to the floor.
If you are looking for serious security I would look at something more heavy duty that uses 7-8 gauge steel or better, such as Sturdy Safe. Also if you're in the "serious security" category you should be looking at layered security where the safe is just one component of many including an alarm, video surveillance, a dog, etc.Comment

If you are looking for a Cannon safe, see if you live near a Tractor Supply Co. store. They run sales on them frequently, and even without the sale, their prices aren't bad. Got mine there, the 24-gun size, for under 700 bucks out the door, and mine has the dial lock (I'm funny about the electronic ones). They often have the 24-gun electronic lock one on sale for $599. They also occasionally sell the electronic 36(!) gun one for $899. That one is almost big enough.I'd look into Cannon Safes. They are located in San Bernardino. Their warranty is one of the best in the business, and they have something for every budget.

Whoa, I had no idea folks had so many problems with them. Well the one my dad has works great, but I won't be buying from them.To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.
