    Letter of apology:

    I was wrong, BIG TIME

Someone once said that to err is human. I just erred, and made without question, the biggest blunder in my 42 years of writing hunting articles.

My blog inflamed legions of people I love most..... hunters and shooters. Obviously, when I wrote that blog, I activated my mouth before engaging my brain.

Let me explain the circumstances surrounding that blog. I was hunting coyotes, and after the hunt was over and being beat up by 60 mph winds all day, I was discussing hunting with one of the young guides. I was tired and exhausted, and I should have gone to bed early. When the guide told me that there was a "huge" following of hunters who use AR 15's and similar weapons to hunt prairies dogs, I was amazed. At that point I wrote the blog, and never thought it through.

Now then, you might not believe what I have to say, but I hope you do. How is it that Zumbo, who has been hunting for more than 50 years, is totally ignorant about these types of guns. I don't know. I shot one once at a target last year, and thought it was cool, but I never considered using one for hunting. I had absolutely no idea how vast the numbers of folks are who use them.

I never intended to be devisive, and I certainly believe in United we Stand, Divided we Fall. I've been an NRA member for 40 years, have attended 8 national NRA conventions in the last 10 years, and I'm an advisory board member for the United States Sportsmen's Alliance which actively fights anti-hunters and animal rights groups for hunter's rights.

What really bothers me are some of the unpatriotic comments leveled at me. I fly the flag 365 days a year in my front yard. Last year, through an essay contest, I hosted a soldier wounded in Iraq to a free hunt in Botswana. This year, through another essay contest, I'm taking two more soldiers on a free moose and elk hunt.

When I started blogging, I was told to write my thoughts, expressing my own opinion. The offensive blog I wrote was MY opinion, and no one else's. None of the companies that I deal with share that opinion, nor were they aware of what I had written until this firestorm started.

Believe it or not, I'm your best friend if you're a hunter or shooter, though it might not seem that way. I simply screwed up. And, to show that I'm sincere about this, I just talked to Ted Nugent, who everyone knows, and is a Board member of the NRA. Ted is extremely active with charities concerning our wounded military, and though he's known as a bowhunter, Ted has no problem with AR 15's and similar firearms. My sincerity stems from the fact that Ted and I are planning a hunt using AR 15's. I intend to learn all I can about them, and again, I'm sorry for inserting my foot in my mouth.

The anti gun people can still use his article against AR & AK types as ammunition for their own agenda without even mentioning the DIC&H@A%S apology letter.

Reading that clown's garbage I bet this is the kind of jackass that would say a .308 from a FAL is more evil than from his Remington ADL. What a moron. I'm glad Remington spoke up, not that I thought they would have backed Jimbo Bimbo anyway. I bet Jimbo Bimbo also thinks a pistol grip allows you to spray bullets 700 rounds per minute!

[Edit to add this having just read the apology] So now what? He's Mel Gibson? He's Michael Richards? He was drunk? He was tired? Is he going to publicly announce he is going to go to NRA therapy now or take a Ted Nugent rethinking course?

Ah, but do you feel the need to support the rights of those who do "feel the need to get up at the buttcrack of dawn" to use a perfectly legal, 2A protected firearm to get that chance? This isn't about hunting, it's about ignorance and gun grabbers. Wolfsong.

                    Another idiot "duck hunter".

Some of the same folks that brought you the orig Roberti-Roos ban by saying "I don't need a semiauto to hunt".

Brothers of the SASS leadership + CRPA that got their precious single-actions protected from SB15 "unsafe handgun" legislation and fragmented our opposition to it, and helped get it passed.

                    Divided we fall.

Maybe Zumbo needs to have his 30-06 'sniper rifle' threatened?

                      Copied this from another forum....

My email to Remington and Mr. Millner's reply:

                      My email:

                      Mr. Millner,

As a long time Remington fanatic, probably owned 50 or more Remington firearms in my life, Life member of the NRA and politically active pro Second Amendment supporter I have to respond to the blog posting of a person you sponsor. Jim Zumbo’s blog posting about “assault rifles for hunting” DEEPLY DISGUSTS me. His opinions are not only repellent to freedom and our Constitution, but they are elitist and divisive.

Having hunted with a Remington Model 721 at the age of 11 when I took my first Whitetail and NEVER hunted big game or birds with another brand, I must demand that you take action to correct any affiliation with this man. I’ve known of Zumbo’s hunting for some years, and have never guessed at his anti-freedom attitude. I see from emails copied to websites such as Glocktalk.com and others that you do in fact appreciate the AR-AK style firearms and their uses. I breathe a sigh of relief at this. I just hope you continue to take this to the core of the problem.

I see that Jim Z. has made an apology of sorts. When he states it a bit more clearly, as in “not terrorist weapons and should not be banned”, then I may forgive him. Until then, I hope you distance yourself from him and continue to clearly state that you support an INDIVIDUAL RIGHT OF ALL LAW ABIDING USA CITIZENS TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS.

                      Respectfully and Sincerely,

                      Roy XXXXXXXXXX

                      Mr. Millner's response:

We have already ended the relationship. Thanks for using our stuff and keep the faith

                      Tommy

                      And another one

Response From Remington To Zumbo's Comments
Hi folks. My brother received an email a little while ago, from the CEO of Remington. He gave us permission to post the content of his message. Here it is:

"You may feel free to advise your people of the following.

Remington is shocked and dissappointed by the comments of Jim zumbo which have been widely circulated on the web. These comments do not reflect either my own feelings or those of my company!

Accordingly we are severing all business ties with Mr zumbo and any of his companies effective immediately and will make a formal release tomorrow to this effect.

We appreciate the passionate support of our right to bear arm arms by all in the shooting sports.

                      Sincerely

[QUOTE=Incitatus]Looks like Jimbo Zumbo just lost his job...Please read the notice below as I copied it from the Remington CEO.

ALL - Jim Zumbo in NO WAY speaks for Remington! His opinions are his own. We at Remington take our 2nd Ammendment Rights extremely seriously and ourselves market and manufacturer a AR based 308 rifle. Remington Arms supports the lawful use of all firearms by thier owners in whatever legal manner they choose. We at Remington feel that it is the diversity of our tastes and uses of fireaems that should also be the binding element that assists us all in defending the rights granted to us by our fore fathers.
Rest assured that remington not only does not support jim's view, we totally disagree! I have no explaination for his perspective.
I proudly own AR's and support everyones right to do so!
What makes me sick is how quickly people on the internet have called to boycott Remington. All Jim said was he was hunting with our people! This is normal course in our industry. How else do people think we field test? with writers.
Remington has spent tens of millions of dollars to defend your rights and how quickly the thanks is threat and boycott! Please feel Free to post that remington does not agree with Zumbo in any way shape or form and we will assess our relationship with him accordingly.

I used to have a little respect for Jim Zumbo. But now I have really changed my way of thinking on that issue . I think that Remington has done the right thing in distancing themselves from him.

This worthless pus bag Jim Zumbo is like those turkeys who owned Seigels guns in Oakland. They were hunters who ran a "professional" gun store and would not carry "those kinds of guns" or any accessories for them. Except this pus bag put his thought on the internet for all to see.
If this pus bag thinks an AR is a terrorist weapon, then everyone who served in the military and held a M16 has got to be a terrorist. What a turd not worthy of being stepped on.

edit: corrected spelling of pus before ohsmily caught me
