Here's an idea......Don't go walking into a dark corner of a parking lot at 2:00 am in a bad part of town..It really is that simple. Try parking in a safer area. At 2:00am there should be ample parking places right by the lighted door ways. Think smart. If you don't need to go to "the bad part of town," then don't. If you live in the bad part of town, consider relocating. Why put yourself in potentially dangerous situations when you have choices? You can find trouble ANYWHERE if you go looking for it.

      From post #39:

"there would be nothing legally preventing you from having a firearm in a hospital, for example concealing a unloaded kel tec rifle with mags would be fine. If i am wrong please cite the PC code barring guns in hospitals."

      Wow, just wow.

All I can say is you are living in denial. A person may have no choice. Most women don't choose when they go into labor, and I don't like the neighborhoods almost all hospitals are in. You must live in some kind of magic bubble where you get to choose when and where deranged sociopaths decide to attack you. If you believe in carrying firearms for self-defense, and more importantly, defense of your loved ones, then the smart move is to be prepared ALL of the time. Perhaps you just don't believe that citizens should have the right to carry?

That's the correct answer. Note that privately owned hospitals aren't listed here, rifles aren't concealable weapons by definition (so you can legally conceal them), the rifle is unloaded (no 12031 PC violation) but the mags can contain ammunition, and they can even be high capacity. If the hospital was owned or leased by the government and has employees of the government working there, different story, that's a no-go per 171b PC.

Privately owned hospitals don't have to be scary places. You can come armed to the teeth.

Denial? Hmmmm, don't read more into this than you already have. I am sorry that I don't have the "Doom and Gloom" outlook on life that you apparently do, but to each his own. Yes, be prepared at all times. Being prepared is not just packing a gun though.

Do I believe that citizens should be allowed to carry? That is a hard one to quickly answer. Just because you can get thru the DROS process does not qualify you to carry a gun in public in my opinion. Many people that own guns have not a clue of the responsibility that they have just taken on. To have them then carry out in public.....No freakin way.

Well, Gotta go back into the "bubble".

Im not talking about the legality issue. Its the fact that someone is talking about carry a concealed rifle. Lets have some common sense people, this isnt Afghanistan.

Agreed. Kind of a common theme around here.

Honestly. I think a lot of it comes from people not willing to realistically and truthfully (to themselves) evaluate the CCW guildlines for this state and their legal ramifications.

What am i talking about? The tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of lawyers fees you will be paying should that one moment of CCW justification comes up. Dear god. Id rather just keep practicing hand to hand self defense and wear steel toes

you'd have to be crazy to maintain a CCW and not be a lawyer / judge / leo / financial courier in this state

Joe, you need to go back and read Lancear15's and spencerhut's posts above. They have already addressed this eloquently enough. You disagree. Fine. But we are NOT paranoid. Again, you confuse prepared with paranoid. You choose to be less self-reliant than the rest of us. That's your choice.

And here we come to the crux of the matter! You do not believe that all of us mere citizens should be allowed to carry. Strange that you choose to be a member of this forum with an attitude like that.

Personally I believe we citizens should be allowed to carry firearms ANYWHERE. If the government wants to prohibit us, they should be required to protect us with armed police, like is true in the Courts. There we can't carry but at least there are a large number of trained armed men guarding the courthouse.

i know right? Because nevermind the armed guards on most trauma floors OR the metal detectors.

No - you need to bring your AR into your wife's birthward because "lord knows what might happen"

i really REALLY hope you are kidding.

edit: if unarmed birth means that much to you - take your wife home and get yourself a midwife to wetnurse that **** out her cooch for chr*st's sake.

What can you do? Not all gun owners believe in carrying for personal and family protection. And believe the very idea is paranoia. Many gun owners don't believe a person "needs" an assualt rifle and support laws banning them.

If you don't believe in carrying for personal defense that's fine, more power to you, but is it really necessary to insult those who do? Not everyone who wishes to carry is some kind of Rambo wannabe just itching to shoot someone. Some of us take the matter very seriously, consider it a major responsability, take the time to receive training and train dilligently. The second to the last thing we want to do is shoot someone. The LAST thing we want to do is bury a loved one we could have saved with an armed defense. Yes there are some "questionable" proponents of armed defense who speak about their desire to carry machine guns when they go to the grocery store but they are no more representative of "us" than people who like to go into the woods and blow apart animals for the fun of it are representative of serious hunters.

As far as "gloom and doom". I don't expect to be attacked by a dozen crack-head gang bangers every time I leave my house but violent crime is a fact of life, unfortunately it happens to be a very real thing. Many people learned this the hard way, they died.

"Move to a safer place". Where exactlly would that be. Violent crime isn't just a fact of the big bad city. People living in the smallest towns are victimized by violent crime. People living in isolated farm houses out in the middle of nowhere are sometimes victimized. People living in the most remote frozen parts of Alaska are victimized. Even people hiking and camping in the wilds of state parks are sometimes victimized. These are not paranoid delusions, unfortunatly they are facts of life.

A person who is serious about carrying for self-defense is just as offended by terms like "paranoid" as a serious hunter would be offended by terms like "bloodthirsty", "heartless", "inhuman", or "immoral".

As gun owners we may not agree on all things, and we don't have to, but one thing we have in common is we all like to own guns. How about a little mutual respect.
