Need A Realtor in SoCal? Shoot me a PM. -
There are 3 kinds of people in this world.
The wise, learn from the mistakes of others.
The smart, learn from their own mistakes.
The others, well......they just never learn.

Are you serious??? I've been in Healthcare for 16 years and seen so many things. With that said, please do not try this!!! You will have PD called on you, give your wive un needed extra stress. Overall, not a good idea.Hypothetical scenario:
Wife is pregnant. When she gives birth, she stays in the hospital for the standard two nights. During that time the husband is also staying in the room, watching over his wife and newborn child. Can the husband consider the wife's hospital room his domicile? And more importantly, can he legally keep a firearm in his room during this time?

Well, there are different views on this. My wife is an RN Charge Nurse at a busy hospital in Labor and Delivery. I would say a gun is not necessary in that dept because it is closed off from the rest of the hospital and they just dont let anyone in there. Well, they do let sometimes less then desirable husbands in that area.
However, thier security is unarmed and poorly trained and although the police are in and out, they are not a regular presence.
There have been intances of serious violence and stabbings and shootings in the emergency room after some big gang banger shooting transitions to the hospital, but only one serious problem there in Labor and Delivery that I know of. A whacked out babies daddy went sideways.
Id say without a CCW, taking a gun in there would not be a great idea IMO. And leaving a gun in your car in most busy hospitals is also a bad idea because they will steal it when they break in to your car or steal it outright....Any Questions about Front Sight memberships or specific information about attending, Feel Free to send me a PM!Comment

ccw or not, have your wife check her employee manual. Any weapon on hospital grounds is an automatic termination! I also work in Labor Delivery/ Neonatal Intensive Care, still not a good idea to carry in a hospital."Americans used to roar like lions for liberty;now we bleat like sheep for security."

Im sure your right about hospitals having a weapons no no clause in thier employee manual, but what does that have to do with the price of tea in China? This post was not about an employee carrying (and my wife doesnt and wouldnt in a million years after hell froze over), its about a person there cause his wife was having a baby wondering about carrying...I dont think he was concerned about getting fired....since he doesnt work there and all..knowhatimean?Last edited by MP301; 01-07-2010, 10:22 PM.Any Questions about Front Sight memberships or specific information about attending, Feel Free to send me a PM!Comment

Moron. It's a valid question. Things happen in hospitals, which is why they limit access to the maternity ward. They also put GPS anklelets on newborns now. I was simply wondering about the legality of adding another layer of security to that which the hospital provided.
I never mentioned anything about carrying. I was thinking primarily of keeping it holstered in an overnight bag. But either way it sounds like a bad idea.Comment

Hey, I don't blame the OP for asking. While on the surface it might sound odd, the fact is, nowhere is really truly 100% safe any more. I don't think it is at all unusual for him to want to directly take control of his family's safety.

I just got on the elevator and went straight up to my friends room the day after she gave birth, nobody said a thing to me. Seemed to me that the only thing they kept secure were the babies. I agree that it wouldn't be a good idea to carry in a hospital, not without a CCW anyway.Every hospital restricts access to L&D floors, not to say that there aren't bad folks that get through, they are the most secure in the hospital. If staff sees you packing in your room you will most definitely be asked to leave and will be talking with the police.
