there are three type of levels 2a 2 and 3a if you plan on getting a 3a its very thick you cant move alot and your back if not use to it will hurt. also remember nothing is bullet proof its hard to drive it sucks when you sit down to eat. Also don't get a metal trauma plate if you get shot in the plate the round might bounce of the plate and hit you in your face or some other person next to you get a trauma plate that is wrapped with kevlar.Bullet proof vest is not knive proof so don't expect your vest to help you there and good luck in summer. here are some namebrands that are good second chance, safariland, american body armour, point black and p.a.c.a

body armor vs bullet proof vest

Correct me (I know you guys will) but I was told (from the recon-marine types) that "body armor" relates to something not "bullet proof/resistant". Body armor was made for shrapnel and debris.

Bullet proof vests are rated to certain calibers and not confused with body armor.

        enlighten me.

Well, I believe there is no such thing as a "bullet proof _______" The title of the thread was misleading, but everyone knows what I am talking about - body armor IMO is any kind of armor that protects your body. chainmail, plated steel, what ever.

oh and I heard about dragon skin. cool stuff, saw it on TV a few times. i didn't think it would be available to the public.

Sorry to burst your bubble, you have to be an LEO to buy them.

Trust me. I tried and failed since I'm a civie.

I'm actually kinda surprised, you being a regular and all, that you hadn't happened upon those threads that come up after every gun show that rip-off artist goes to saying "oooh, buy a vest NOW before they get banned!!!"

                          Body armor at good prices

Try Galls (find them online) They have level 2A for about $200. and level 2 for just a bit more. They have quite a few retail outlets including one in San Francisco
