I'm stoopid... how can I become a private security contractor?

not all require military experience but without it you will get ****ty jobs and far less pay. This person I work with put alot of time in sending resumes to the right people and started with boring crap jobs that just got the ball rolling. now he get called up randomly to go fly our and do security work for saudi dignitaries. He said something like they have to have americans with their own security or something. He has had job offers for smaller jobs in Iraq but he said he wasnt crazy, he still isnt getting offered a whole lot of money. He has no prior military or law enforcement. He just took a crap load of tactical classes, went to gun site alot and then sent stuff out.

There are lots of jobs over there for non-security types. Truck drivers, Food Service, maintenance, etc...

Awhile back (was it Dynegy??) that had embedded software engineering positions open for CPUs I know.

Apparently some hardware/firmware needs on-site customization, working with "the Customer". Surveillance? Anti-IED? Dunno...

It was over $300/hr, supposedly in Green Zone. Project at least 1/2 year duration, 1 wk paid travel home every 2 mos.

That's $52K/month, with apparently very favorable tax treatment.

If I didn't have GF, cats & mom here I'd be over there in a wink. Probably less risk from mortars than accidents on Hwy 87 anyway.

It wasn't Dynegy, they are a electrical utility company that owns Illinova Power (Illinois power company) and a bunch of other power plants they are not in the military software or hardware business.

I used to be their Manager of Gas Turbine Maintenance.

I saw an ad on craigslist a week or so ago. They were hiring LEO's with 3yr exp., paying 120/yr in Af, and 135/yr in Iraq.

Not bad...

Hey guys. Some say I'm insane, or at least retarded, but I don't care... I want to be a private security contractor in A-Stan or IRAQ (or USA even) what does it take, training/schooling-wise to become such a contractor??

I have been to a Skip Barber driving school, and I've competed in numerous autocross and track events in both dedicated race cars and street cars so I can drive pretty well (in my opinion anyway) I grew up on dirt roads and have been sliding around for years.

I have also been an avid shooter since I was 8 years old so I know my way around just about any weapon system out there (except stuff like M249/M240/M2HB) I can strip/repair/clean the FAL, AK, SKS, AR15, M1A and Glock 17/19, 1911 and Sig 226 and Im confident I can quickly learn others.

Maybe I'm delusional, but I think it would be fun and exciting, not to mention profitable. HOW can I go about becoming a contractor? My prefered roll would be as a driver...

Let me give you an honest response.

The first thing I am going to do when I look at your resume is see what you did in the military.

No military experience?

Your resume is going in the trashcan and I'm not going to waste another second even considering you. If I've got a stack of resumes to go through that's the first thing I am going to do to weed people out.

Skip Barber driving school? Competed in numerous autocross and track events? Been an avid shooter since you were 8 years old? Claim you know your way around just about any weapon system out there?

None of that means anything to me as an incentive to hire you. If anything, using those points on your resume without any verifiable military experience (or LE at SWAT level) is going to count as negatives.

You say that you think it would be fun and exciting. Dude, seriously. This is a war zone. That kind of attitude is NOT the reason to come over here and that's not the kind of attitude that'd be appreciated on a team. If you're in it for the money, great. But if you don't understand that this game is being played by big boy rules and respect that you need to get a grip on reality.

Out of curiosity. Blackwater's quite large yeah? Are all their jobs filled by ex military? Don't they have other corporate type positions like any other company, mechanics, it guys, executives, secretaries and such?

Every company has jobs like that obviously, someone has to take out the trash and whatnot afterall. I think the OP was more interested in the highspeed overseas jobs though.

I meant in someplace like Iraq do they have a kind of corporate office set up like that, or do they just fill the non operator kind of jobs with locals sort of like the military does? Meaning a contractor company only sends operator types and management types overseas.
