as of april 2006, bought my first 3 handguns at turners. wrote them a letter which i got a response from their director and since then, i've sent them 7 receipts for handguns purchased at Martin Retting.
you snooze you loose. Turners sucks balls. they have terrible customer service and idiots who know nothing about guns. i thought they did which is why i bought my first 3 but no more. I'm still not done. i'm buying 1 handugn a month till the end of this year. each receipt i send to the director at turners to show them how pissed off i am. by the way, they fired the person i complained about. i'm certain i wasn't the only one.
power of a consumer. write the letter but shop at retting. cheaper, better service, better knowledge. If GUNS kill people, then SPOONS make people fat.Comment

Now I suppose it might be specific stores. I've had no problems.
A few salesstaff have strong opinions (as if there aren't strong opinions posted here
).
They are a "chain" store and they are going to hire some sub-par staff. The old saying "It's hard to hire good help these days." is an old saying.
Generally I don't expect them to be more knowledgable than I am in my areas of specialty. I look at the source and evaluate what they tell me. I have had some very good and accurate information from salesstaff at Turner's. Several times I've heard them strongly recommend to a customer that he should go to FiringLine and try several pistols before buying. They have always been friendly and helpful, well almost always. I just chalk it up to they are a retail store and don't expect as much. That said I've only bought 1 handgun and 1 long gun from them. The long gun is a good example of them being helpful. I bought one of the last of the Win94's. They didn't have it but the salesperson offered to call, he called a couple of stores and convinced one to ship it to my store. When it came in most of the other sales were astounded I was able to get it.
On the other hand I still prefer Ade's. I've spent way more there and would go there first. The "staff"
seems way better too. Of course you may have to be patient at Ade's as well since it can get a bit crowded.
Forgot to mention - I do agree to vote with your feet (and money). Shop where you are treated right.

That's the law. 10 24 hour periods. No less.Originally posted by neomentatFirst they made me wait at the counter for 2 hours on the 10th day after the waiting period because it was 2 hours ahead when "DROS" was activated to make it EXACTLY 10 days, to the second.
They are correct. Federal law requires the sale of a lock with a handgun. A Safe Affidavit is not acceptable. And then they wouldn't take my safe affidavit and charged me for a lock, when I wanted to buy a pistol safe instead of the crappy chain lock they said I will have to call the CA DOJ and ask them if it was alright since they already punched in the type of lock sold with the gun on the DROS form.
You're lucky they're even allowing the return. At most gun stores, trigger lock sales are final without returns allowed.I went to the counter to do the "exchange" they then tell me I will have to come back another day to return the chain lock they've already charged me and wouldn't even give me a credit on the safe I was trying to buy.
Most likely a warranty repair from the manufacturer. Some dealers stand by their products, others don't have a gunsmith or won't. Dealers are generally not required to service a firearm that you buy.To make things worse, the revolver I bought was a display model, and 3 days later on my first trip to the range the firing pin broke. It could be manufacturing quality or perhaps it was dry fired alot while being on display, but either way I'm sure Turner's isn't going to do a damn thing to help me out in my situation.Comment

I've purchased two guns at Turners in Kearny Mesa and they wrote the exact time I'm allowed to pick the gun up right on the paperwork next to the date when I could come and collect. Not only have they been informative, honest, and polite (salesmen aren't afraid to talk about the downsides of a gun, what they like, and make recommendations, even if the product they recommend over the product I'm looking into is half the price), but they also gave me great deals on both guns (even knocked a bit off the price after a little persuasion) and provided excellent customer service. It might have just been your particular store, but the one I go to is nothing short of fantastic.Comment

I don't get the lock BS.
I know for a fact I have filled out safe affidavits before when buying handguns.
Another thing that is BS, is that Turner's will flat out refuse or give you lame excuses why they can't do a PPT for you, even though they are required by federal law. One time, I went to do a PPT transfer at Turner's with someone in San Marcos. They said they would do it, but the staff was preoccupied with other things. After waiting two hours for a sales representative, we were told flat out that we could not do the transfer because the gun did not come with any magazines (I only had highcaps with said handgun so I could not transfer them) and they could not do their "safe handling demonstration" without a mag.
We asked if the buyer could acquire a mag and do the safe handling at the pickup date (I have done this before when purchasing a handgun from turner's) and was told no. Then we asked if he could do the safe handling demo with a display gun in their case that was the exact same firearm (again, this is something that I have also done at turner's when the pistol I was buying wasn't in stock of the particular caliber). Again we were told no.
Had they told us this when we got there, it would have saved us two hours standing around waiting to get some help.
Its obvious that all they care about at Turner's is getting your money, and since there is little to no profit to be made on a PPT, they feel as if they would rather not waste their time helping you with something that they are legally required to do.Comment

they have to make you wait for the DROS. 10 24-hour periods is just that. 9 24-hour periods and a 23.9 hour period is illegal...
and actually there is a FEDERAL law requiring a trigger/cable lock with any handgun purchase. Having a safe satisfies California law, but not Federal law...Originally posted by Kestryllwe can not nor should not dismiss or discount my theory that in the dark of night you molest sea anemones by candlelight.Originally posted by TKMShow me on this 1st Amendment bobble-head doll where the mods touched you.Originally posted by Click BoomIt is clear from this thread that citadel grad was the gunman, and Oswald his patsy.Comment

Yeah, sorry man. 10 twenty-four hour periods is 10 twenty-four hour periods. It is true federal law now requires that a locking device accompany every handgun.
I cross things out on my DROS forms all the time. If I was going to sell them one lock, but find a missed a lock in the box, I cross it out and add the other one on the form. Who cares?
As far as the waiting period goes, I am not a fan of the 11th day tactic. The law is clear when it says 10 24 hour periods. Why not just tell customers 10 24 hour periods? If they show up a day early, you tell them they are a day early. If they show up two hours early, tell them they have to wait. I tell the customer and put it on them. I think guys are much more appreciate to be able to pick up their gun on time and I think it makes a difference. That is my two cents.www.tenpercentfirearms.com was open from 2005 until 2018. I now own Westside Arms.Comment

I've got to ask you to post to this one. turner's is the cheapest so there is a lot of traffic..buy guns on tuesday morning or something (I actually plan this).
buy a lock at big 5 and show the reciept for purchase within 30 days...return
find a sales guy who you can work with and ask for him...You just want the guns-jump thru the hoops.Comment

The federal law started being enforced late last year. Well Turners decided to start enforcing it late last year. I have not purchased any handguns since the law was being enforced but some buddies have. They were forced to buy a $5 lock on the grounds of the federal law.Originally posted by ca_brit_05I've got to ask you to post to this one. I have never had an issue at Turners in Signal Hill. There is a young snotty kid that works there who thinks he is the gun god. Everyone else is really cool.Comment

Did some Googling and it looks like there is such a law but congress voted to prohibit its enforcement. Talk about confusing.

The trigger lock law is on the books, BUT, the .gov voted against any funding to enforce. Here's the link: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquer...temp/~bdlV3z::. As far as the 2 hour wait goes, if you showed up at the time written on your paperwork, I'd scream B.S.! If you showed up 2 hours early, I'd scream TOO BAD! 10 24 hour periods is the law. Hopefully when Bass Pros opens here in Rancho Cucamonga in June, they'll be selling guns, and Turner's customer service will step up or step out!War is when your Government tells you who the enemy is......
