    @#$#@ Turner's

Turner's Outdoors Man and their ignorant young "know it all" sales staff have finally driven me away as a customer, for life.

I bought 2 guns at Turners, or tried to, and twice I have the worst customer service and experience in my life.

Long story short, first time I ordered the same exact rifle as my buddy at the same time, his arrived after 7 days and mine didn't arrive after 30 days of ordering. They canceled my order and charged me $30 dollar cancellation fee because they first said it was a en route, and then blamed it on a computer malfunction and said they couldn't find my paperwork.

I swore I was never going to shop at this store again, but against my better judgement I bought a revolver during their new year sales event.

First they made me wait at the counter for 2 hours on the 10th day after the waiting period because it was 2 hours ahead when "DROS" was activated to make it EXACTLY 10 days, to the second. And then they wouldn't take my safe affidavit and charged me for a lock, when I wanted to buy a pistol safe instead of the crappy chain lock they said I will have to call the CA DOJ and ask them if it was alright since they already punched in the type of lock sold with the gun on the DROS form.

I mean come on, what's the difference? after a long and tedious debate with the salesperson and the store manager (during which time they constantly reminded me they're just abiding by the law and I'm just **** out of luck) they finally agreed that they will let me buy the pistol safe and not pay for the chain lock. But surprise surprise, when I went to the counter to do the "exchange" they then tell me I will have to come back another day to return the chain lock they've already charged me and wouldn't even give me a credit on the safe I was trying to buy. So the next day I made the 20 mile drive back to the store to do the exchange, yup you guessed it, the manager tried to back out of the original agreement & after much more debate, he gave me a dirty look and finally let me do the exchange.

To make things worse, the revolver I bought was a display model, and 3 days later on my first trip to the range the firing pin broke. It could be manufacturing quality or perhaps it was dry fired alot while being on display, but either way I'm sure Turner's isn't going to do a damn thing to help me out in my situation.

I am furious at Turner's bad customer service and all the wrong information they're giving out so freely.

If you have any similar stories to share or any bad experience dealing with this chain, then please share them with us by all means.

I recommend you writing a letter to the Turner's HQ. I bet in the end you will get an apology, and a gift certificate for your troubles.

Are you suggesting they should have done something illegal? What they did is correct, releasing a gun before the wait is over is a no-no. Yes, even 2 hours.
        Please, calm down.

The 1st issue was their issue and they should have made good with you and not have charged a cancellation fee. You should have probably took it out with the manager at that time. If there was no paperwork how did they charge you a cancellation fee?

2nd issue is exactly what they are supposed to do. When I bought my gun there, they give me the exact time that I could pick up my gun. Told me not to come early unless I wanted to wait. Every single DROS I have done the FFL would give me the specific time I could pick up.

not saying that at all, but they could of told me to come and pick up the gun on the 10th day after a certain time instead of just telling me my gun will be ready for pick up on such and such date.

I paid for the rifle in full at the time of ordering, and when they lost my paperwork I asked for a refund, at which time they refunded me $30 dollar less because on it prints "$30 cancellation fee"

my second issue isn't exactly with the pick up time, but just the whole experience

Your gripe about waiting the two hours until picking up because of the time of the DROS is not valid. The law is 10 (ten) 24-hour periods from the time of the submission of DROS. If you picked up the handgun a minute early, you and they are in violation of the law.

The firing pin sounds like a manufacturer's problem, so give them a call for warranty service.

The issue with the cable lock sounds like you might have a point, so bring it up with corporate.

blkA4alb is correct. The waiting period is ten (10) 24 hour periods from the time the DROS was submitted. See CA DOJ Firearms website:

The waiting period for the purchase or transfer of a firearm is ten (10) 24-hour periods from the date and time of the submission of the DROS information to the DOJ.

The dealer typically indicates time in which you can come by and pick up the firearm, at least all the dealer's I have dealt with (Turners included).

I can't comment on the other stuff you mention.

I boycotted the Turners in San Bernardino since 2003 because the guys working behind the counter were pricks. In the rare event that actually go into a Turners, it's the Riverside location. All the guys I've talked to over there are friendly.

Every Turner's I have ever done business with told me the exact time to pick-up, not that it would have mattered since I pay attention myself. And no FFL will refund a DROS fee because there is no such thing as a "refund" from DOJ. Once DROSed = TS if you want to cancel, DOJ keeps the money.

p.s. I hate Turner's too, it took me over 2 hours to do a PPT in Pasadena because the manager didn't think he could accept my color-copies of CDL, HSC, and utility bills which I brought to make the process "easier."

I know the 10 day waiting period thing is a legality issue, I guess what i'm trying to describe the annoyance accumulated after 2 hours of waiting and then having to deal with all the stupid comments with that cable lock issue. I was so furious I was near a boiling point.

I've never started the DROS since my rifle never came in, the DROS can't start when the gun's not there. I got my DROS fee back since it never started but they took out $30 when they gave me the refund.

                            lol....

That's why at our shop we tell people their wait is up on the 11th day, that way even if they show up when we open they'll be good to go. And for people that are regular customers or very CA-law-competent we of course release it to them if they show up after their time on their 10th day. Nonetheless we always get people whining about that extra day. The whole wait period thing really gets under peoples skin.
