As long as you have a real EBR(.223+) in the safe, then who cares about the plinker. People try to talk ish to me about how girly they are, and I just show them a picture of my pile of AR's and explain the cost effectivness and fun of the .22, then they stfu.

Honestly, I think it's the other way around. Dedicated uppers are really popular, check the rimfire section of our board. There are quite a few threads on them currently running.

It's tough to beat being able to spend $14 for a whole day's worth of fun and shooting. Flat top ARs make it easy to swap out and/or use your favorite optic. Just like modding ARs, accessories are limitless. I suppose you can say the same to 10/22s, but they're a completely different shooting experience.

The person just has to get over the cost of spending a minimum of $600 on an upper.

I agree it's finicky though. For the most part it's a crap-shoot whether you need to tune it. I think that part is complete BS.

I enjoy all my EBR 22lr's, even if they are not all black.

I would love to have a WASR-22, but no one will sell me one.

So one guy at one shop said something and you are thinking that "EBR" types of .22's are "so unpopular"?

There's a huge thread here with just photos of people's .22 semi-auto's. There are dedicated forums for .22 caliber version of AKs and ARs. I don't think there is any lack of popularity, just a lack of money in this economy to afford these guns.

My AR-22 is hands down my most fun rifle to shoot. If you could only have 1 AR I can understand wanting the real thing. However, many of us have multiple AR's already. When I was buying Wolf .223 for $95 per 1000 I didn't think twice about shooting hundreds of rounds in an outing.

When ammo prices went stupid I would go to the range and every pull of the trigger on my AR shouted "FORTY CENTS!!!! FORTY CENTS!!!! FORTY CENTS!!!! FORTY CENTS!!!! FORTY CENTS!!!!" My AR-22 allows me to shoot thousands of rounds for almost free. And it's great fun. So much fun I just finally ordered a GSG. I would love to get one of the GSG AK's at some point.

Don't think there is a lot of hate towards EBR-22's. I recently read the GSG-5 is the number one selling rifle over the past year.

All this talk about them is making me want to get one just to have all the evil features and detachable mag. The guy at the SJ gun exchange just made it seem like the gun was crap, and I hadn't seen many threads on here about .22lr rifles

.22s, esp EBRs are cool because the cost of ammo is so cheap you don't worry about it at all. However, I don't think I've ever had a .22 that I didn't have to tune, and even after tuning I don't think I've had a .22 function as well as an AR that I slapped together that didn't need any tuning at all.

The main problem with semi-auto .22 rifles has been the magazines. Historically .22 mags, especially highcap mags, have all been total crap.

The big breakthrough came from Black Dog Machine's mag for the Ciener AR-22 design. The guy designed them for full auto M16's using .22 conversions because that was the only way he could afford to shoot full auto and all of the .22 mags in existence sucked. Those mags changed everything. Instead of .22 semi rifles requiring lots of turning and hunting for the perfect .22 ammo, you could just shoot and have fun.

The GSG-5 mag design is also fantastic and a major part of why the rifle is so successful. A .22 rifle must be reliable if it is going to be fun.

i see 22lr EBRs all the time at the range i go to. now, i've not seen much AKs. but when you're done modding a ruger like crazy, it migth cost or cost more than a EBR with a dedicated 22lr upper!

I have a 10/22 International version that is great loads of fun. I'd love to have a GSG or even a Ceiner conversion for my AR but I just can't justify the cost in my mind to buy one. Although I do have a couple of rifles I'd be willing to trade.

I have a GSG5, WASR22, AR with dedicated .22upper, 10-22 w/BC folding stock, flash hider, etc. and many other .22s. They are fun guns to play with. If you are refering to the GSG AK, I'd agree with the salesman. Why would anyone want to spend that much on one when they can get a REAL AK in .22lr cheaper?
