    3 Round Burst

Does anyone have a picture or animation of how this works in the M16/M4 family

Full auto is easy to see- 3 round burst is a little more complex since there has to be some sort of counting mechanism to make it stop. Having never seen one I picture a rotory device, where 1 rotation of the device produces three shots

There are 3 kinds of people in this world.
The wise, learn from the mistakes of others.
The smart, learn from their own mistakes.
The others, well......they just never learn.

Granted - if he's asking to buy these parts, how to make these parts, how to find these parts, etc - then yes, this is bad mojo.

However, can't we have a simple theoretical discussion about how the parts would work?

No becasue the computer chips that the secret police put in our tooth would buzz! Causing the phone to ring at well known secret location. Wich then would cause a tactical response with those oh so encognito black Helicopters that dont stand out like sore thumbs. Inturn causing you to be followed and linked where the tap into your thoughts, Emails etc...

Actually I think it would be fine but others get paranoid. Kinda like going into a gun store and saying auto sear.

I've always wondered how a gun knows it shot 3 rounds as well.

There's nothing illegal *yet* about talking of how guns work, especially guns that are legal in other states.

I think you need to chillax, friend. It's just simple knowledge and you have to remember, especially in my biz, I'm around full auto and burst weapons all the time - movie guns on set - which are perfectly legal.

I don't personally own full auto weapons nor the parts to make them such, but I'll be damned if I let some big brother "presence" curtail the freedom to even speak of them! They're legal in every other state (practically)!

I've read about the Beretta 93R a little bit, and my understanding is that the gun uses a ratchet system in the grip to "count" out 3 rounds for its 3 round burst mode. I happen to own the Airsoft version of this gun, and notice it does the same thing. I haven't taken the grips apart to see exactly how it works, though. Not sure about AR series either.

There is a ratcheting pawl on one side of the hammer that causes the disconnector to be defeated for 3 hammer drops.
The 4th time the hammer comes back, the pawl releases the disconnector which grabs the hammer.
You have to release the trigger to un-set the disconnector.
This releases control of the hammer to the trigger.
The next time you pull the trigger, the hammer falls 3 more times until the disconnector grabs it again.
Releasing the trigger anytime during the burst will cause the hammer to rest against the trigger again even if it was only after 1 or 2 shots.
I think that the next trigger pull will cause a short burst as you would be using up the remaining 1 or 2 shots on the pawl before it disconnects again.
Having never fired an M16A2 or M4, I don't know if the pawl resets or not after a short burst.

OK, since I can make machine guns at will, here's how it works.

See the three disconnectors in the pic? Those all work off the burst wheel right behind the hammer.

The steps on the burst wheel control the disconnectors and release them at different intervals. The top hooks on the disconnectors hold the hammer back when the burst is done firing or you interrupt the burst after 1 or 2 shots.

The result is a 3 round burst or a single shot that has 3 different trigger pull weights, due to the ratchet wheel. This is what happens when you let the government spend money on equipment instead of proper training.

I'll see if a burst kit is in stock somewhere and get one to show you how it works in a machine gun receiver. I'll run a short video on it.

It doesn't matter what business anyone is in. It's not illegal to talk about the inner workings of firearms. It's all common knowledge.

Yes, I'm a film director currently working in Hollywood. I've produced dozens of shorts, an unaired TV pilot, One feature film (action) due to be released in January on DVD, one documentary feature on Italians in North Africa during WWII, and am in preproduction on another action movie starring an Oscar winner.

I mainly only do action, in reality. 'Cause of the gun thing, writing action comes easy and I enjoy it.
