SHTF Strategy Question

I'd fight it out in my house til I can get away. There is only one way in and out (which could be good and bad) so I only have one primary direction I would have to defend. If worse came to worse, I could knock a whole in one of the apartments next to mine. But as soon as I could get away, I'd be taking the family to the most remote area I could find.Originally posted by TRAP55Or your ammo stash has replaced your wifes parking spot in the garage.
When my neighbor asked what all those crates were, I told him if he sees smoke coming from my garage, and me running down the street......he better catch up!

This isn't a "what if the SHTF in the Death Star" thread.

rage against the machines - bulls on parade
I've concluded that it is absolutely necessary to have an old vet, a biker, a black dude, and a chick in your group in order to survive a zombie attack.
At least, that's what Left4Dead has taught me...Originally posted by luchador768We also had a lot of wannabe gangsters putting the display pistols down thier pants to "try them on.". If you bought a display handgun from the Riverside Turners in the 1990's there's a greater than average chance that there is cholo crotch on it.Comment

Not a single person in the crowd is rational or reachable because the parade's for gay folks and it's in SF.Comment

My opinion for defense engagement is to have a point of domination for all access points. And it's most likely not going to be you're house...
This may sound crazy... but my barn cost more to build than my little house. When I built the barn/garage it was after 911 and i was thinking SHTF preparation. My property would be clear of dirty bombs, and hopefully a small nuclear attack in SF, but it wouldn't be clear of the refugees seeking to forcefully take shelter and resources...
The barn is 4,000 sq foot with two stories. The walls facing the only access point form private dirt road are reinforced to protect form small arms contact. The top floor has access points for engagement if necessary. There is a small living space, radio room powered by windmill, and wood burring stove. The sniper position from the barn top floor creates a perfect point of domination and forces the trespassers in to a coffin area. This barn is positioned in front of the house to protect the family.
Even a reinforced trailer or RV protecting the house can offer you the ability to radio your family during engagement and have them evacuate to a safe zone or panic room. Panic rooms are very nice as well because your family can hide it out if you fail to hold the fort. But hopefully they are armed, and can join the engagement.
But hopefully seclusion will avoid any negative contact...
Another note! If you have a lot of cars on your property...you can use the tractor to move them to the road, to block access. Then you will hear if trespassers use trucks to push the cars, but if you position the cars so the pack together, you can force the trespassers in on foot! Then once they enter the coffin, you have the point of domination!
So am I a total nut job or what...lol....I used to live in the city, but when my son was born I realized it was time to homestead the ranch and get the F out of the city!Last edited by Guest; 10-05-2009, 2:15 AM.Comment

WOW, and while your at it, why not run a gas line to your sprinkler systems with ignitors to cover the lawns....?This may sound crazy... but my barn cost more to build than my little house. The top floor has windows (on out side) but inside has steal plates with access ports for engagement if necessary. There is a small living space, and radio room. The house I currently live in is over 80 years old and has paper thin walls. It's basically just general concealment and provides zero cover. I do however have a large back yard that I could dig a nice fighting position (with clear lanes of fire) in.
I probably wouldn't want to stay at my place long though. I'd only stay there long enough for the situation to stabilize a bit then bug out with the family. Probably load up the truck and head to the hills....or even out of state. California, with it's huge population of knuckle heads, s#$@birds, and dumbfounded dip#$#ts would NOT be a good place to be in a SHTF situation. The less strangers around you the better in that situation."We're surrounded.....that simplifies our problem."

Sand bags and a 1919A4.
I don't think many people will feel like attacking a machine gun nest after SHTF.Comment
