    Tracy Defense Distribution Depot

I need to go to Tracy Defense Distribution Depot in Tracy, CA some time next week to pick up a shipment for my employer. I know this is a federal facility, so no ccw. But is there anything against unloaded firearm in a locked box in the trunk? It will be a road trip from Socal, so some form of protection is preferable for the road. My employer knows nothing about this facility, how to get in, etc. It will be in warehouse 58. If you are familiar with the place in general, please share. Much appreciate.

If whoever did your training didn't cover this you should look into better training.

Spoiler alert, the answer is no firearms on federal property.
    Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

no weapons of any kind on property

Keep in mind that it's a Federal facility / So don't have anything that the Fed's don't like even is CA doesn't mind

They have the right it inspect and search you and your auto.

You need to contact his POC as depending on what you are picking up they want the drivers info (an anyone with you) id on file before you get there.

Make sure your auto reg is current and you have it and your ins card.

Make sure that their is nothing wrong with you auto

I know nothing about that particular facility, but there is a chance you can arrange for the guards to take possession. This would be an uphill battle, and you would have to declare your CCW to more people than you would prefer. Your boss would know about it, the person you talk to on the phone, the guard on duty, their supervisor, probably that supervisor's boss... The list will be extensive.

The lynch pin for this would arranging everything ahead of time. It's not a given that this would work, but sometimes calling the security honcho before you get there and stating, "For my safety and that of whatever it is I'm picking up, I'll be using my state issued CCW. When I get to your area, what arrangements will be needed to help facilitate this?" Assuming you have a tetherable lockbox, there is a chance you can jump through some hoops and make it happen. Similar to TSA and flying with a pistol.

Random thought but maybe when you get to Tracy you could leave your CCW with an FFL for a bit and then retrieve it on your way back home. Not sure how that works but it's an idea.

If you are going to try this make sure you have it correct. keep in mind you will have driven onto the Fed's property and past the no weapons signs long before you are at a gate / checkpoint

You don't want to get to the gate an no one on duty knows what's going on

Elite Armory Plus (formerly Tracy Rifle and Pistol) is just up the road a mile from Tracy Defense Depot. Perhaps a call to them would be prudent. If anyone would accommodate your request, they would be the ones.

Years ago (when it was still a navy base) there was a guard shack at the main gate at Rough and Ready in Stockton where one would check the firearms there. There was a shooting range on base so at the end of the day one would go back and and get them to go to the take them there. Of course this was way before 911. Had good times. There may be an option to just check them at the gate in your case and get them back once you've completed your business there. Doesn't hurt to call and ask.

You are 100% correct. In addition, make sure you have either a letter on official letterhead or at least an email from a boss with the agreement and details listed. There is a chance that the shack monkey you see has zero idea what you are talking about. So you need to have enough info in hand to convince him that he at least needs to call his boss. And he HATES his boss.

Thank you everyone for your info. No weapons anywhere anytime on Fed property. Got it. We plan to make this 700 miles round trip in 1 day, so I don't think I have time to check in a gun somewhere before pickup. I will just leave it home. I try to call my POC there multiple times in the past couple days, but no answer. I have no idea how to get in, and what to do. I will email him now and see if he responds. I hope this won't be too difficult checking in and out like a military base.

Whoever is requiring you to go needs to make sure you have all of the pertinent information. Showing up without the information that you need is a bad idea because people there will not care if you are unprepared.

                        ^^^this^^^

                        You can't "just show up"

It's sort of a appointment only type of thing.

They want to know who is showing up long before you get their.

You need to know exactly what you are picking up (unless it's a blind load / I don't think this applies to you ), from who and the location on site.

You need to know what gate you are to enter / report to (if you get in the wrong line you may get stuck and it's going to turn into a ***** show

You need to have all your paperwork sorted before you get there or you are going to be sent away.

I wondered how the pickup process goes there. I have seen a number of things on government auction sites that i have a use for. Having to deal with gov employees and being uncertain about the process has kept me away

I've picked up a bunch of stuff bought from government auctions. You need the receipt as well as all the auction papers.

You show up at the appointed time, and check in at the pre entry building before entry. Have your DL, vehicle registration and insurance.

All must be current and valid. No firearms.

They give you more papers which you show the gate guards.

Usually the auction will provide a map where their office is, which may be different than the location of the items.

It's not a big deal. Just be on time and respect their rules. Have a clean un cluttered vehicle.

You can be searched, although I never have been.

When exiting you show the gate guard your paperwork, and turn in the pass you were given.

I've bought three surplus military trailers, it was not a big deal.

I made sure i also had a AZ MVD issued trip permit which was issued to the trailers VIN. Although nobody on the base cared about that.

But a few times different state troopers slowed down while passing me. I'm sure they were looking at the
Paper trip permit taped to the tailgate.

I never got stopped. I think I would have been if I didn't have the trip permit taped to the tailgate.
