    What happens when you die?

I’m only 60. But, I am starting to wonder what it will be like for my wife when I die regarding my gun and ammo collection.

You guys ever think of this?

    She’s not a gun person.

P.S. I expect many of you to say, “send it to me now.”
    … that’s not an option : )

My wife will call Lock, Stock, and Barrel in Simi Valley.

They'll come out, take everything, sell it on GunBroker, and send her the proceeds.

    Easy-peasy

You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.
    Come on...what harm??

She can put them on consignment.
Or you can sell now and keep one or two for defense?
Unless you really want to keep them.

Yes I thought about it at about your age. I started downsizing about then. I now have limited arms and adequate ammo for a couple of fire teams in common calibers.

I'm still active but know I'm in decline at 81. My wife is not a firearm person but our two sons are. What few arms I have left, they will take care of. Ammo, will be an issue, if I croaked tomorrow due to stupid CA laws and of course weight will be an issue. (Neither son is local; CO and St. Croix).

May you have a long life and do what you think is best for your situation.

        Respectfully
        Kyle

If she will need the extra money, sell what you’re willing to give up now here.
Set up an account for her here with fair values.

Otherwise find a good consignment place or auction house and make sure she has the information available when the time comes.

Make an inventory of what you have. Put tags on everything. Make a note book with all the info. Update the inventory every year.

She can then best decide how to proceed if you croak. Most firearms auction houses charge about %20 of the sales price which isn't bad. Some will come to you to pick up the estate items.

My cousin husband died from Covid complications. She has given all his guns/ammo away, also gave away the trailers, truck, all hunting gear, & all her tools.

She is moving, & wants none of it. To date, 95% of everything has been give away free, including, 2 quads, two motor cycles, boat.

              It's sad to watch.

              Good luck Op

My wife has been instructed to keep what she wants and sell the rest here to cal guns members.
She knows the value of my collection and ammo and has a spreadsheet with values.

My wife does not want any of my guns. We have already set up our living trusts. All of my guns go to our son. He can then pass any down to his children as he sees fit. There are no grandchildren yet, but their will be in a few more years. He is getting married in January and they both want children.

I cannot wait to do a custom built 10-22 for each grandchild.
Anyone can look around and see the damage to the state and country inflicted by bad politicians.

A vote is clearly much more dangerous than a gun.

Why advocate restrictions on one right (voting) without comparable restrictions on another (self defense) (or, why not say 'Be a U.S. citizen' as the requirement for CCW)?

This is why I am thinning things out,---you can't take it with you and I am getting older so I don't think I'll complete 1/4 of the projects I have. My family can keep or sell as they see fit but it's the little stuff that is worth a ton but no one knows what it is.

                        Ditto!

                        On topic:
I have been leaning out the collection for a while and will pass on a few each to my sons.
Since they are local to us, my sons can take any extra guns, ammo, reloading equipment and related gear to Lock, Stock and Barrel.
Yeah, I need to work on that inventory and value spreadsheet.

I have arrangements with a couple of friends that they will help sell off as much of my collection as my kids don't want, and do their best to make sure nobody takes advantage of her.
My friends and family disavow all knowledge of my existence, let alone my opinions.

Yup. The smart thing is to write down some instructions on how to dispose of items ( esp things like AWs and 10+ round magazines. ) Obviously the more detailed the better but a basic framework is way better than nothing.

For things that need to be sold, basic ideas of value ( as of such and such a date ) are important. Also probably good to explain that if the person doing the cleanup wants to minimize the time spent do "this", but if instead they want to maximize money received do "that."

That all said, I've thought about it. I just need to write it all down.
