I think almost every gun law on the books is unconstitutional. You have more right to a machine gun than you have to vote.

A huge % of our population are idiots and incompetent. They are no safer because they own a gun. That is the truth.

They still have the God given right to own and carry one.

My first CCW was in Texas. The deputies stayed until everyone was good enough to pass.

That ccw class charges money to qual? They took money from the guy and didn't mention safe gun handling prior to the class? Hmm? I wonder to myself if this was an oversight or something else to just get paid.

Of course they did. I'm sure there was an info sheet and so forth. Rather than fail him, they should have run a side class for him to make sure he is safe and knows the basics (see Texas class above).

Then again, in class, I watched a guy scratch his butt -- not on the right side and not on the left side -- with the front sight of a SIG P228.

When you see the difference in outcome with different levels of training, I find that a training component seems like a better and better idea.

"Well-regulated" in the 2nd Amendment means "Well-Trained and Disciplined" as contrasted with a chaotic group you just throw together.

The dq’d applicant has 2 choices
1. Be happy with the results and content with the fact that no one is able to tell him he cannot defend his home, that right cannot be taken from him except by the traitorous senators and the help of George Gascon types.
2. Dig in to learn and get better.
I agree with Sharedshot, I dislike having to request permission to exercise a right but neither should an innocent person die at the hands of a lawful but incompetent gun handler.

It's a good point, the delight the media has if they can make legal carry look bad is without question, but the best they generally come up with is saying a "good guy with a gun" is a myth. They deny the existence of the good guys who of course have endless examples of success they purposefully suppress.

I run into this in my renewal class with the aging shooters. Guys that have shot guns forever and had ccw's forever but are just getting older. I had to babysit the guy next to me and get him shot before I could shoot my own. I ended up being part of the instruction and not just a student so to speak. One day I hope a younger shooter will look after me when I am 80 and not as sharp as I once was.

The instructor took him out by himself another day and worked with the guy and his weapon choice to get the old guy back on track.

There does come a time when one should stop trying but an old guy that does not go out much and still wants to keep up his qualifications will always be welcome shooting next to me. I will gladly stop what I am doing to assist and make them safe. I will be the first one to raise my hand and say "no" to anyone that should not be standing on that line though. If the instructor does not step in I would offer to help them on my own time if needed.

Eh. I dont have the same opinion as most of you. If that person couldnt safely operate his ccw gun then he shouldnt be able to carry.

That would be the same as letting someone who cant safely drive a big rig out on the road carrying 50k lb loads.

They will be a danger to society and in situation that would require them to draw they would either lose their gun to the criminal or shoot a bystander instead.

They can go take training classes and show they can safely operate the gun then take the ccw class again.

I feel that every kid (male/female) should take mandatory shooting in Eight (8th) Grade. At school and at home. Cover all the bases, all gun types.

I know some of you did that with your kids growing up. I know I did.
