Dented Ammo, safe to use?

A few of the shallower dented ones look like they’d still chamber and I would shoot them. Most of those, however, look like they have a raised ripple around the dent and won’t chamber. I’d be hesitant to let a SA bolt attempt to go home as you may find yourself with a live round jammed in the chamber.

Agreed. I've fired ammo with much worse dents than those will no problems.

Looking again at the OP's photos... the majority of the 16 rounds pictured might not chamber. There's a pretty big ripple just below the shoulder on a lot of those.

Too, the primers are crimped, so, good luck getting those out with a little excitement.

I'd shoot them from an FAL if they fit, but those don't look like they will.

I handload big bore revolver calibers, some bottleneck and .45-70, but I've never tried to harvest unfired primers that have already been seated in their brass.

The decapping pin is like a firing pin on the wrong side... if one were to decap slowly... primer prolly not pop... but the anvil would be damaged and I wouldn't waste time reusing and never trust it.... imho

Personally I would not fire it even if it chambers. Theoretically this is no different then fire forming a case, but that is done with reduced charge. These dents reduced case capacity and with unknown powder charge, you can't guess what pressure it will produce.

That has always been my take on the matter. Crack the cake of primer compound, then how reliable would it be in the future? Guess I could in-schpect 'em all with a loupe... but then again, NAH.

If I were extremely! hard up or something... way out in the bo0nies, in a shack, down to my last 500 primers... maybe I'd think of doing this. Until such time, though!

Chamber those rounds and fire them. The cases will be perfect when they're ejected and reload them.

I've shot much worse.
