    California Compliant?

I'm moving from Michigan to California, specifically to Contra Costa County and would like feedback on the attached list as to what's CA compliant, what can be made compliant and what is banned from CA regardless.

    Feedback is appreciated.

    Regards,

    TGriswold

Any handgun is fine as long as it doesn't have a threaded barrel. If it does, bring them with you disassembled. Owning a threaded barrel is not illegal, attaching it to the gun is.

Once you settle in, you'd want to look into non-threaded barrels.

All your bolt actions and shotguns are fine as they are.

Your 2 semi-autos need to either be fixed magazine or featureless. Bring the AR in with the upper and lower separated and you are now within the law. You can figure out what you want to do with it later on (featureless vs fixed mag, both have pro's and cons) maybe make a post another day and we will tell you exactly what needs to be done. There are 2 different routes you can take and it's just easier if you separate the halves right now because these laws are confusing. And you'd have to figure out which compliance configuration you would prefer. There are many ways, and in my opinion, better if you come back to it another day with the help of this forum.

I would put a cable lock through the lower for peace of mind. Leave it disassembled until it is in a compliant configuration. It being disassembled legally changes its classification from semi-automatic centerfire, to not, therefore it's not bound by any "assault weapon" laws. (Legal explanation attached at the bottom of this post)

If your AK has an adjustable stock, you can buy the compmag, and you're good to go, legally compatible with a brake or flash hider.

AK-47 CompMag, The Ultimate Fixed Magazine Solution

If your AK has a fixed stock and a brake, you can buy the fin, and that's all you need to do. If it has a fixed stock and a flash hider, use the fin, and just unthread the flash hider and throw it in a bag somewhere.

All magazines must be below 10 rounds, so rivet them or use an internal blocker.

You're all legal now, assuming no rifle is an SBR and assuming the AK and AR are not pistols either. Make sure all overall lengths are above 30" and that's all.

Semi auto rifle, must be 30" total length, unless the rifle lower is registered as a pistol semi auto, in which case it has to be magazine locked.

Semi auto rifle or shotgun with detachable mag must have no features (pistol grip, flash hider, forward grip, collapsible stock). If it does it must have a magazine lock solution.

All pistols may not have threaded barrels.

I don't believe you can bring in any magazines that have a capacity over 10. You can convert by putting a rivet without gluing the bottom. If you put in a magazine block you should glue the bottom?

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

also if you’re bringing ar’s check to see if the branded lower isn’t banned by name. see “flowchart” in the menu bar at top of this page.

Yes. I recommend buying any handgun you ever think you might want, because you will be very limited when you settle in California. Anything you decide not to keep for yourself will probably sell here in California at a good profit.

It's legal for someone moving to California to bring in AR and AK pattern pistols so long as they are fixed magazine pistols.

You are incorrect on the threaded barrels on pistols. You may have threaded barrels on pistols so long as said pistols have fixed magazines.

                  Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Is it legal to have a Compensator on a Bolt Action rifle?

Look @ the top of the main CalGuns page there are flowcharts that you can go through for each type of weapon to check whether it's compliant or not. If not you will need to make the necessary changes to it to pass through the flowchart.

Suppressors (NFA) are not legal in CA, but Compensators that don't hide the flash or baffle the muzzle blast are legal.

Everything is ok on a bolt gun. Can one import their own .50 BMG?

I know you did not ask about this, but if you would like to get a CCW permit then Contra Costa County may not be the best place to live. Take a look a one of the adjacent counties like Solano or San Joaquin. It may increase your commute time, but well worth it. (This is based on the current county CCW map at http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s....php?t=1236204)

Or maybe the SCOTUS will get off their behinds and rule that a ccw must be issued regardless of location.

                            Good luck.

If that Colt says AR15 on it I'm pretty sure it's banned by name.
