    CFARS

Trying to renew my COE. Uploaded my CDL but it's not accepting it. Keeps telling me that I need a REAL ID. I don't have one and won't until after DEC of this year. Any Idea what I should do?
    Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Do you have a passport? I would think they should accept that.

If you don't have a real ID, but your ID does not say "Federal limits apply" you have to check the box on the application that says not real ID, and you have to upload your DL twice, once under the DL section and also under one of the additional proof of citizenship options. I just went through this the other day.

I just logged back in and there's no box to check.

Everyone is going to be getting a RealID at the DMV starting in early 2023. Why wait and stand in line with the hordes? Just go online and make an appointment now and go get it. It only takes about 10 minutes at the DMV, and about 10 minutes online to upload your documents. You're going to have to do it eventually anyway, so just do it now.

My license expires 12/13/2022. Why should I do it now? I paid for 5 years, I'm going to get 5 years.

Well, I changed the name of the file and uploaded to that option. It let me go through the process and make payment. Hopefully it goes through. Though I forgot to start it last year like I should have, today is 44 days to expiration. Let's see how long for the renewal.

                          Thank you for your help.

I renewed mine 58 days before expiration last year.
About 10 days before expiration, I got the new COE pdf dropped in my CFARS.
A couple months later, I got a notice that my COE renewal had been approved.

So at least last year, they were just approving them at the last minute without notices and then sending out notices later, presumably after they actually approved them.
I would guess that there are not very many COE renewals that actually fail to get renewed for anything other than confusing paperwork requirements or actual errors in the renewal application.

Last year I renewed pretty early, don't remember if it was 60 or 90 days out. I don't remember ever getting a notice that it had renewed but I logged in sometime before it expired and the header said that my COE would expire in something like 390 days. That told me that it had renewed and I downloaded the new COE

Hopefully it works out the same way.
