Most likely as there is a difference between a Magazine and a Clip.

and the terms don't interchange.

Clips and Magazines are two different things. Many gun nuts (like us) get upset when people say "clip" instead of "magazine" for much the same reason as we get mad when someone calls an SKS carbine a "AK variant" or "Assault Weapon".

I've always found this one funny.

My whole life I called magazines "clips". Then I got blasted on the net for it one day and stopped.

I know plenty of very competent people, who make their living with a firearm, who call mags clips too.

Yes, I know they're different, but it's a colloquialism, and doesn't IMO demonstrate ignorance with firearms.

You should have read the clip/mag issue on the falfiles a year ago. I think it got up to 200 plus posts.

I'd say its modern day slang. Considering most slang is a bastardization of 1930s-1960s slang and the CLIP VS MAGAZINE issue came from garand adds a point to that idea.

What ever you do don't ever become an attorney as words mean things and different words mean different things CLIP vrs MAG you may think they are the same and are interchangeable but they are not.

And no I'm not being Anal retentive. Put a Clip into your AR and note that a CLIP will not work in your AR only will a magazine work in your AR.

There is only one problem with this insanity the AR15 rifle would have to have a feed mechanism somewhat like the M1Garand.

I have always used the word magazine, and I did not know the term clip came from stripper clips. But why such a big deal, to someone that is not a gun expert that watches many action movies a clip is a magazine and vice versa.
