I’m sure there are plenty of new shooters that are happy to walk in and pay those crazy prices, so they likely don’t see an issue with it in the short term

Long term, it’s a bad business practice to gouge your customers. They will prob find that out when they realize repeat business is nonexistent for them.

We’ll be discussing this again, in a year or two when they announce their going out of business sale

Before making that long drive, did you spent the time to call to verify the FTF price?, did you spent the time to go thru their website/FAQ?

If in your opinion 40% is outrageous, it might not be outrageous for others. Hence that's the logic/demographic LAX are targeting.

If you really want that 40% less price, there are many work arounds, you have to put the time and effort into it, nothing is free in this world.

          get an account with bigdaddyunlimited.com

          They currently have wolf brass cased, WM193 55GRAIN @ 10.99 / 20

They have a sale for .99 shipping.

My FFL In Chino Hills charges $6.

So it depending on how much your ffl charges it will be about .58-.60c per round shipped / fees / picked up.

** They also have wolf steel case , 556 / 55gr for about 39-40 per round shipped / fees / picked up

            Whoa!?! That is cheap...

What sales tax does that FFL uses?

Screw LAX ammo for not selling to us CA residents. And their prices are garbage to boot.

I've been looking for some 556/223 ammo. Most local dealers charge around $0.80 per round, but on ammoseek I found vendors charging around $0.48 per round if you buy 1K.

One of those vendors from ammoseek was LAX Ammo and advertised $486.95 for 1,000 rounds of PMC 223 REM 55 GR FMJ-BT (223A). Great! I made a long drive to buy some - only to be quoted $685 for 1K rounds by the guy at the store.

I was confused by the $200 upcharge and was told the price of $486 was for out of state purchases only and if I was to buy it at the store, it would cost me $200 more.

I'm tryin to understand the logic - LAX sells it out of state for $486 and locally for $686? I told the clerk I would gladly buy it for the same price they sell out of state, but I'm not paying a 41% markup. Am I missing something? Why the 41% markup to local sales?
They have to compete with out of state sales so the price is competitive with out of state sellers.

They dont have to compete with in state sellers as the prices are pretty much the same across the board because …well because they can. They do not have to price compete because all the other stores are selling it for about that price also. So there isn’t any competition. And if you dot buy it…step aside because there are 5 guys behind you credit card in hand,
Yiu can’t buy ammo out of state and brig it in, you can’t order ammo without the FFL receiving it and charging whatever fees they deem to process the order so they have absolutely no incentive to lower their prices.

Lastly …you live in California where prices are automatically 20% higher than anywhere else in the nation.

LAX Ammo is quite upfront with the customers. They basically have two different models of the business, namely online and brick-and-mortar. While both supplied from the same source, cost and profits are set differently. It's their way to run the business, I respect it. Then again, I personally don't like it, but I don't tell them how to run their business and I choose other venues to shop at.

They probably drop ship their gunbroker orders. That means they don't buy it until they sell it, and they never have to touch it or store it.

Contrast that with in-store inventory, where they had to buy it, receive and store it, and that includes logging it in CA.

                        There's the price difference.

LAX Ammo and their range have been off my list for years.

anyone tried buying in NV or AZ and drive it back? i know it's not allowed but a few thousand rounds is easy to haul undetected. i mean, who's going to know right? do NV and AZ shops check ID?
