I have a few with no illumination like a Nikon M TAC 1-4... it would be nice to have an illumination dot, but illuminated reticle scopes are a very recent option IMHO. I think we survived without them in the past.

A 1x with a nice bright dot makes it more like a RDS for sure.

More manufacturers should go away from elaborate fancy PINK illumination of an entire busy reticle... and do DAYLIGHT bright dots. There are some manufacturers still selling dim pink or green sights that should have figured this out by now. Based on this alone, the PSTII 1-6 is a GREAT budget LPVO.

That is all!
Stay on 1x for fast target acquisition. My LVPO has a nice big ocular. It shoots well with both eyes open a lot easier that iron sight.

I’d put my aim point pro up against iron sights any day. Iron sights ain’t magic. They break too.

That's right... my "LaRue" Troy flips will definitely break before the PRO... I bet my DD fixed sights would too.

I’d say any flip up sight breaks before a aimpoint in a solid mount. This myth of magic irons reliability is a joke perpetuated by people that don’t actually bash around their guns.

I heard it was the opposite in Iraq, where engagements were generally under 300m.

So we have a lot of data that doesn't help unless you clearly specify range. Just using the term "war" for SHTF won't help with anything without more specifics.

Yeah that's the receiver breaking if a carry handle fell off.

TRADOC did the original survey for AFG and it was easier since the incident reports were more uniform, meaning that despite your unit assignment, the engagements were similar since the Taliban would engage from longer distances.
Iraq was a lot more complex since you had tank battles going on during the invasion mixed in with street fighting in Fallujah and Sadr City. On the whole, the fight was much more urban so you could been fighting it out 10x10 rooms at a time and on exfil, fight it out on the street 100m at a time.

Way past the A1 days now. There are removable rail mounted versions like say the A4 or really an option for any flat top receiver.

                              A1, A2 carry handles
                              A3 flat top

No WAY a bolt-on carry handle is rugged like a A2

If you have a A3 it is verging on ridiculous to bolt on a carry handle... IMHO

I do regret swapping out my A2 upper for a flat top though... but I had no idea I would have more than one AR.
