I usually carry my long guns in hard cases. When they ask, I tell them I am a musician and I have key board in the case.

As a musician I have lots of guitars and equipment with similar cases to my gun cases. Although I don't hide the fact that I shoot from people I know, with a stranger or acquaintance I'd just lie and just tell them it's a guitar.
